St. Stephen�s Community House is a non-profit, multi-service social agency operating out of 8 locations in downtown Toronto. We are looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and committed individual to fill the following position at our Employment and Training Centre.
Position: Job Developer, Student Services- 11 month contract

Reports to: School to Work Transition Co-ordinator
GENERAL FUNCTION: Reporting to the STWT Co-ordinator and working with the summer placement staff, the Job Developer is responsible for outreach to employers, finding and securing year round part-time and summer time employment opportunities for students. The job developer will be responsible for liasing with the schools co-operative education departments with specific emphasis on the skilled trades and OYAP placements. Additional duties will require the Job Developer to work closely with the Job Connect Job Development team to share leads and ensure a smooth transition from OYAP to Job Connect.
QUALIFICATIONS:
� University Degree or related Community College Diploma or Certificate in Marketing and/or Public Relations, Human Resources Management or equivalent skills and related experience.
� Two years in job development /employer relations, with an emphasis on job development in non-profit and government funded projects.
� Strong computer skills; MS Office, MS Outlook, Internet.
� Knowledge of the target group, labour market trends and job development approaches, with an understanding of Building Trust Relationships methodology and an asset.
� Strong customer-service background.
� Persuasive verbal, written and presentation skills.

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Regent Park Neighbourhood Initiative (RPNI) is a newly incorporated community- based social planning body working with multiple stakeholders in Regent Park. RPNI�s mission is �Leadership in building and sustaining a healthy, vibrant community�. The purpose of this position is to work directly with residents, service provider organizations and other stakeholders in the catchment area on various community issues and projects.

Youth Support Worker
In partnership with the Griffin Centre, Across Boundaries has received funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, to provide mental health and substance abuse services and programs for transitional-aged youth (age 15-24) in the Jane/Finch community.
The successful candidate will provide case management and develop programs for people with mental health problems/mental illness and/or substance abuse who are young adults from either the South East Asian or Arab speaking communities. The worker�s contact with clients will take place mainly in the community and the worker will work flexible schedule including weekends to accommodate the needs of the community and the client.
The individual must demonstrate an understanding of anti-racism, awareness of mental health issues of individuals and groups of colour- particularly as it relates to the communities mentioned. Lived experience of racism including an understanding of the impact of racism on health and mental health is a must.

Since the earthquake hit the kashmir region of pakistan i have been asked by several organizations to go and assist in relief efforts. i initally declined as i've already been away from work 4 weeks this year to aid in tsunami relief efforts.
But now, with the shortage of female health pracitioners its become more important for me to go, and i do have a few weeks of vacation available to me. Others who wish to go have more responsiblity and less availablity than i do. i've recently been asked to help recruit therapists (physio/occupational) who can aid in neuro-rehab of persons sufffering from traumatic amputations, spinal cord injuries etc. while i'm not fond of winter and will need to purchase the appropriate winter clothing, footwear, and sleeping bag etc, i have decided to go! my target date in dec 16th, hopefully i'll be gone for 2-2.5 weeks.... to help set up a rehab program in the muzaffarbad area. i am in the process of recruiting several of my co-workers here at Trillium to also assist as the program will go onto well into the new year.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will act as a business partner to customer teams for all aspects of Human Resources. As a generalist, you will develop, implement and ensure on-going administration and communication of HR policies, programs, systems and processes that provide HR solutions which support the business� strategic goals and values.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Conducting permanent and temporary recruitment assignments based on customer group needs.
Partnering with functional customer teams and providing consultative services to all levels of staff, in all areas of Human Resources including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, employee development, compensation and succession planning.
Benefits administration including new enrollments, terminations and working with insurance carrier when required to administer plan changes and required reporting.
Working with insurance carrier to manage all STD and LTD claims and to develop effective return to work programs.
Be an active member of the CCH Health and Safety and Fire Safety committees.
Managing and maintaining employee data on HRMS, including input and report generation to assist in HR planning and salary planning.
Assisting in ensuring that the HR business plan is delivered and assisting in the development, design, implementation and support of various HR programs.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelors Degree and/or a post secondary education in Human Resources
2 to 3 years in an HR Generalist role or in an HR specialist role
Benefit administration experience
Excellent time management skills
Possess or currently working towards and HRPAO designation
Knowledge of PeopleSoft HRMS
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Superior writing skills
Detail oriented
Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure are essential.
Proficiency in current technology including Word, PowerPoint and Excel is essential
Understanding the confidential nature of the work is required
Bilingualism (English/French) will be considered an asset

THE CONFERENCE
In recent years, the state of Islamic education in the
United States has come under heavy scrutiny, spurred
by fears that US mosques produce radical young
Muslims. This conference aims to bring together
scholars, policy experts and educators in order to
critically examine the landscape of education within
the Muslim American community, its future directions,
possibilities and challenges and the ways it is
frequently represented.
Papers may address any topic related to Muslims and
education (broadly defined) in the United States and
Canada. In the spirit of deepening our understanding
of the pedagogical conditions in Muslim American
communities, the Institute for Social Policy and
Understanding (ISPU) and Georgetown University invite
scholarly papers pertaining to the following general
themes:
1. Islamic education in North America
2. Muslims in public and private school systems
3. Trends in Islamic day schools, charter schools,
Sunday schools, and Home Schooling
4. Comparative studies in education (American ethnic
and religious
minorities)
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
The steering committee invites abstracts and
curriculum vitae for papers pertaining to the
conference theme. This is a research-based conference
and papers will be selected on the merit of the
proposed paper. A selection of papers from the
conference will become part of an edited volume.

C. Special Request: Earthquake Relief Effort
Salaams dear friends:
Since the earthquake hit the kashmir region of pakistan i have been asked by several organizations to go and assist in relief efforts. i initally declined as i've already been away from work 4 weeks this year to aid in tsunami relief efforts.
But now, with the shortage of female health pracitioners its become more important for me to go, and i do have a few weeks of vacation available to me. Others who wish to go have more responsiblity and less availablity than i do. i've recently been asked to help recruit therapists (physio/occupational) who can aid in neuro-rehab of persons sufffering from traumatic amputations, spinal cord injuries etc. while i'm not fond of winter and will need to purchase the appropriate winter clothing, footwear, and sleeping bag etc, i have decided to go! my target date in dec 16th, hopefully i'll be gone for 2-2.5 weeks.... to help set up a rehab program in the muzaffarbad area. i am in the process of recruiting several of my co-workers here at Trillium to also assist as the program will go onto well into the new year.
