Well, cats are not very fond of water. It is your luck if you were to give your cat a bath. Some scream, some try to climb the person giving bath, and some crazy cats might love taking bath :). You have to try, and find.

He might go on the futon when his litter box is full and smelly. Cats don't like their own filth. The next time you go on vaca, if you don't have a friend checking on your cat to chnage out hte litter, you could leave a second pan of clean litter.

Send him to a pet hotel.

Once litter box trained, she will be fine. In fact, my cat is so hooked on litter, that she never ever goes poopie/pee outside. This means I have to clean her box everyday - she doesn't cut me any slack :).

As for scratching - I got a tall cat tree - the kind with poles and a square platform (several). Then I gave her treats on it all the time. Now she only uses that to scratch (95% of the time). Some cats like vertical scratching position (tall ones to extend their back), sides of sofas etc. Other cats like horizontal scratching - carpet - in which case you're screwed! J/k - invest in a cat tree (I had to nail mine against the wall in a corner) and you'll be fine. Oh and I spray my cat with 'punishment water' when she uses the carpet. :)

Hmm, usually cats don't go on the carpet provided they are litter trained and that you keep them happy :). Try placing a few litter boxes around the apt. and show your cat where they are. BTW, my cat loves to use my carpet as a scratching post.

I sat my kitten down for a long talk about this and she promissed not to do it again.
