CD V Vinyl

Hi guys, recently discovered this village. Very cool to see some ladies working those decks :)
I DJ as well (hence in this village doh!)..altho albeit alternative stuff....I'm heavily into desi beats...but sadly its hard to get them on vinyl..which is why i use CD mixers. What do u guys reckon....the feel of the vinyl or the easy accessibility of the CD?? both??
I like mixing bhangra with hiphop lol...works quite well, infact most stuff mixes.
To change the subject slightly, there is this wikid bit of software called PCDJ...any1 used it? it simulates the complete *deck* environment, but with room for enhanced manipulation....
Will be good to hear what you lot have to say :)

they're straight arms. their start and stop is a lot quicker. that can be adjusted as well. they have pitch and ultra pitch, meaning extreme ptch control. and they have the reverse play feature. i've never used that though. they were made for the puspose of battling. negatives: the aesthetics of the 1200's are nicer. more sleek. the weight of the pitch control knob is better on the 1200's. other than that, the pdx's are definately a different way to go, but i think they are really more beneficial than the 1200's.

i have heard really good things about the pdx2000s.. haven't had the pleasure of playing with them yet.. What's the major difference vs. TT1200s.

Yeah, you'd think that they'd take a little money made from the bar and reinvest into some half-way decent equipment.

For weddings and private events, i use my JBL SR-X series speakers or EAW.. Most clubs in DC don't use such high end stuff, but as a DJ, sound quality is a hugh deal..especially for me, since the type of music i dj demands alot of bass.. it's kinda sad when i go into a club and dj and notice how bad the sound quality is.. you would think club owners would invest the money for a proper system.

DCGuy: No doubt. I remember playing out at a lounge in SF to find the Mixer had a short, one of the turntable motors couldn't keep a continuous pace (slowed and sped up constantly), and the speakers would snap, crackle, and pop if you turned the system up too high. I found it sad that my equipment in my home is better than many lounges/clubs.

i was spinning at a lounge two wks ago and they provided the equipment. American dj cdplayer, and mixer..wholly c#$. I was so disappointed!! cd player skipping, overheating, mixer fader going bad.. this weekend, i am bringing my gear..

I can't stress the importance of having good equipment especially in a club environment..

There is no substitute for the ability to touch vinyl and the side of the platter on the 1200. Having said that most of my new music is on cd. Now I just need to get a better cdj....anyone want to donate a CDJ-1000 my way? :)

i was hardcore vinyl when i actually spun. i recently sucked up and bought the same pioneers dcguy has for kicks. cd mixing isn't that bad really; i feel like a sellout, but the access to my selections is uncomparable to vinyl. im down with software when i produce, not when i spin. same fears, comp lock up, lack of resources...no time for that ish.

yup i sure do...:)
we use the numark cdx with the 12" platters so u can scratch..beat mix etc...it's pretty cool....but i want a Denon DNS5000....more intelligent...and superduper :)what you guys think of those ones?
I know what u mean by the overkill of desi beats with hiphop.....coz it's so easy it gets overdone....and some of the MC'ing is dire :-/
DO u guys MC??

welcome to the village. I was a diehard vinyl junkie (and still am --for house music), but alot of desi music is on cds and I have switched over to cds, and the quality of players is excellent now. I spin w/ cdj1000MK2 by pioneer. it's a serious tool for djs. you can beat mix, vinyl stratching, loops..etc..you name it, it has it. It offers alot more choices then vinyl. For music, you can get loop sample cds like dhol beats, and mix hip hop cause alot of desi djs do that now..it's a bit played out, in my opinion, but the young kidz like that stuff. I have played w/ PCDJ but professionally speaking, i would stick w/ cds and vinyl. I wouldn't want to risk a software bug in a computer program or harddrive crash during a gig.
