Meechi, Crowe did look really good, with his hair dyed black and all.

This movie was wonderful...the acting, directing, everything. The depiction of the widespread poverty during the Great Depression in America was touching and very realistic. I really hope the film gets nominated for Oscars.

If you're going to pass judgement and call him a baby though, hey, that's your thing.

Well, was hoping for some comments on the movie itself, but I suppose that was expecting too much. I think he has anger issues, and perhaps finally getting arrested will trigger him to do something about it once and for all.

Abshaw - I've never seen Seabiscuit, but CM is set during the Depression, and it certainly has hope and struggle. :D

Ms. NSW - as you'll note in my JE 'putting aside my love for all things Crowe'. :P :P I had a couple things to pick on about the movie, but I'll wait till someone else sees it.

its more or less like sea biscuit, a tale of depression converted into hope and struggle. :o}

Depending on how you look @ it, you'll either see the 'work' boxing takes in the ring - or the violence, might be the latter in your case. There is definately the 'rooting for the underdog' theme (given the title too) - but I think the movie does a decent job given reasons why he tries to win. :)

Yeah, I saw MDB - but I didn't think of it at all when watching CM, because CM sucks ya into a different type of story. I'd say the obvious comparison will be that they are 2 movies w/ boxing. Aside from that, MDB was a different movie w/ a different vibe (I liked it a lot too), so I'm probably not the best one to ask. :)

plus an admiration for discipline and hard work and the grace of the sport--which of course i never see, since all i can focus on is the gratuitous violence...

did you see the boxing movie directed by Clint Eastwood, Million dollar baby..is this sorta like that? how does it compare? ...i'm not sure about boxing movies, the gratuitous violence makes my stomach turn..and there's always this kinda rooting for the underdog + winning is glorious, type of theme in lurking the background..which i'm not quite so fond of..
