Cockroaches...Egyptian Cockroaches!!!

Sorry to gross many of you out...but I needed to vent after having just come from Egypt and having a few horrific encounters with some. That's actually one of the reasons that would deter me from living there again *: . I don't think I've ever seen a cockroach in the States? Are they only Egyptian? lol...

What's been your experience like? Seen any flying ones or are those just rumors?!

What's your favorite method of combat? shebsheb or getting your younger brother to yetsaraf, lol...

Let us reminsce... :D

Disclaimer: The purpose of this topic is not to put down living in Egypt in any way because of the cockroaches...but just sharing a very common experience for laughs...

Dear Hzma,
Subhan Allah...
what an interesting reminder that the saraseer beysabiho le rabena.....sa7 fe3lan since the aya says "yosabe7o lelah ma fel samawat wa ma fel ard"!!!
(Everything in the sky and on earth praises Allah)...

Hmm...I think I'm starting to like them better than before :):):)

(just a "little bit", don't wanna get carried away here) lol..

Gazaki Allahu khayran for this nice perspective :)

yeah i understand sarah_saad921, your father probably knows more about it than me, but maybe the myth is right, maybe it's not lol, allahu a3lam, but then again, it could be right, but the bugs may have been smaller, ut may have gotton bigger form the enviornment thier in, cuz wheather we like it or not, egypt isn't exactly the cleanest or most sanitary place, so i bet those bugs got plenty of things to munch on, fa ahna byne3ifhoum lol

heard it from a tour at the Egyptian Museum, and when I used to do social work there.

my dad worked in insect control for Johnson Wax too, and he said something about mating and whatnot.

still, who knows, the story could be wrong, but the idea of the beetle being the only familia form in Egypt from Pharoahnic times was from the Egyptian Musuem in Cairo. =) allahu a3lam, momken akon ghalat

but i swear, american rats and florida flying cockroaches are the worst thing i've seen....lol

no offense or anything, but i've heard that story before and i highly doubt it to be true, what proof is there to support it you know, also i don't think bugs just mate with any type of bug, although they may have been similar, but still

actually, believe it or not, cockroaches have never been on Egyptian land since the beginning of time anyway. An American cockroach actually went on board a ship by accident and arrived in Egypt, like the ones in Florida, and then mated with the only form of bug that was similar to the cockroach in Egypt (the beetle...that has been in Egypt since the Pharoahs...) and then this is what we get....but hey, i guess American politics isn't the only bad thing egypt gets from america, huh? ;)

A flying cockroach in the elevator? hmm...I doubt this concept, I think they need more space to do their flying freely :D :D (I hope.. ); )

And life with cockroaches, dogs running after you, and flies, and mosquitos..win in my book over life without them.... they add so much to life and make it much more richer :):) (I'm not saying I want to live with cockroaches, :D lol, hope people understand what I'm trying to say) :). It's just that everything here is so nice and easy and clean....to a suffocating degree :)

man those cockroaches are nasty, i think even the stray cats who don't have anything to eat are disgusted by those things lol, but about killing them, you got to get heavy shib shib, if thier flimsy, it won't hurt them lol, and forget spraying them, that's like giving them a bath lol

yes i had a horrific Egyptian cockroach experience that i wont even go into (i'll just say I was 7 yrs old and i still remember vividly).
Re: "Lizards are not that bad"- I agree with that... until you've seen someone take a shibshib to one. ewww.
Anyway.. Florida also has its fair share of cockroaches, at least in the part where I was.

Lizards are not that bad :D

Back to cockroaches...
So I was in an elevator in a nice apartment building where I didn't expect I would encounter one...it was a small one but still it didn't keep me from releasing some screaming-like sounds :) I told myself...calm down MuslimaEgyptian...just press the button, it will be a few minutes and I'll be outa there. As I was telling myself that, walahi the little thing crawls right up to the floor number I needed to press!!!!!!!!! Thank God for cleenex, it helped saved the day as I used it to press the button. Sometimes a thought crosses my mind....Ya tara howa lesa 3ayesh fel elevator? (H)

The most important thing is that when you find the nasty sorsaar, you dont lose sight of it, dont allow it to escape! THEN you CALL your brother AND tell him to grab the biggest shibshib in your house. Spraying tends to take a longggggg time and by the time the little sucker is affected by it, so are you and everyone in your house. :)
