Converting to Islam

Do you think it is right or wrong to ask someone to convert to Islam if you are planning on getting married?

(Btw relax people - I am just interested in your thoughts and this is really not about me)

Maybe it's something the person (muslim) has to do in order to appease the folks, who can be so overbearing as some would vouch too.

It's one thing to just have a fling outside wedlock since the the peeps back home don't have to know about it.

And it is a completely different thing to bring home a potential spouse for the parents, the extended family and then the whole community to witness. There are a certain factors to take into consideration here.

Hypocrisy? Yes.
Reality? Most definitely.
Integrity? Non, what so ever.

Then again, I could just be waffling as usual.

W: Exactly. If they are good enough to fool around with in the unIslamic sense it seems more than a trifle hypocritical to bring out the religion and make it a condition of the relationship progressing...

this kind of stuff really annoys me...all of the girls i have seen trying to convince their bfs abt islam have been involved in totally unislamic activities before, so it's unfair to suddenly impose islam on the guy....when it is a way completely different than the one the girl has been modeling to him. i feel bad for the nonmuslims in this situations, why break someone's heart if you're not going to be honest abt ur expectations in the beginning?

My dad is going to Ummrah. He went to visit some family (my mom's side). My cousin's wife asked my dad to give dua for her. But she specifically asked to make dua that she one day goes to Makkah/Medina herself. The rest of her dua's, she'll do once she get's there *boom-boom*

Thought I'd just share that.

I know I am 3 months too late on this one but thought it was a good post so, will add my comments to the diverse views. The discussion was diverse but arrived at no concrete results. To be a Muslim, is a way of life ....no one should convert, unless he/she understands it. Marriage can be difficult as it is. To add religious differences is complicating it to unbearable lengths. Besides converting to Islam is easy, becoming a Muslim is the problem. Children are the main recipients in a marriage Muslim or not, so if you are compatible in your relationship, then everything can be worked out.

it is

i didn't declare anyone the winner, you'll know the winner when my epic poem is out...
right now it looks like a 2 way tie for last place....

Deep Dish Pizza would be better if the crust was tastier... but it ain't.

babaganough is hard to make exceptionally well, but also kinda hard to screw up. it's an excersice in normalcy.

but if you get it right... man oh man, unbeatable.

By the way... nice one Shazia; appropriate ancient quote to prophesies the outcome of a modern scientific advancement. It's concepts like that which make me appreciate this world just that little bit more :)

Boy, whoever patented the wheel must be mega-rich by now from the royalties... followed closely behind by whoever designed the sliced-bread );

My second attempt:

Oppenheimer, creator of the atom bomb, after witnessing the first test of his creation. He quotes from the Hindu text of the Bhagavid Gita, where he quotes Vishnu saying "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds" - after which he breaks down in tears.

I think that must surely make me a strong contender...

Actually, Einstein is likely a huge fraud.

It has been alleged that his Serbian wife did all of his computations as she was a mathematician, whom Einstein divorced later but out of what some would say remorse he gave her the entire Nobel prize money? Also, there is talk of an Italian mathematician actually formulated components of the theory of relativity before Einstein.

Moreover, there seems to be a cult of sorts around Einstein. I think Greenberg or some young American physicist said that if Einstein was alive today only he can with superstring theory finally formulate the grand unified theory. Also, there is this weird woman who is the caretaker of Einsteins' brain and has said he was a genius because he had a larger and denser brain that lacked a Sylvian fold.

Personally, I think I would learn much more about love from Hawkins.

in which case.....

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death. "
Albert Einstein

and i can come up with a better quote. i'm sure i can.

i'll write a very short but none-the-less-epic poem in honor of the winner.

so that yer accomplishments will be remembered by bards and minstrels forevermore

now get to it,

my money is on baba, his quiet unassuming style is just a camoflouge for the warrior beast within.

plus, i prefer babaghanooge to deep pan pizza.
if it was thin crust or chicago style. i may have gone the other way.

Go for the throat baba, Carpe Jugularum, as the romans used to say.
