SF is a sweet place to kick it only if you know the right spots and roll with the right crowd .. There are tons of cool muslim sisters that are in the area, and there is a big dinner party coming up soon which she is invited to, so hopefully she meets some folks over... I have a bunch of cousins in San Francisco....in fact I'm going there this weekend.....my cousin Sharif is 27 he moved last year all the way from New York to San Francisco and he loves it there (of course he's way into the hiking,biking,snowboarding stuff so maybe that's why). He's on friendster, not sure if he naseebs but when he gets back from vacation in Iceland (snowboarding etc) I'll mention for him to look out for her.

Is she going to attend the GGU law school? GGU is a commuter school and it's located in the heart of downtown SF. Downtown area isn't the most desirable neighborhood to call home. Public transportation is readily available throughout the city. She can live pretty much anywhere in the city and commute to school via MUNI www.sfmuni.com). Feel free to contact me for neighbourhood tips.

San Francisco isn't the best city in the Bay Area to socialize with other South Asian folks. South Bay and East Bay cities are better if she is looking forward to that.

She would be better off without a car. She will spare the air, save money on insurance, save time by not looking for the very rare parking spot and most importantly, she will get Cardio Exercise while walking or riding her bike to school. (San Francisco Bicycle coalition - www.sfbike.org ).

Nightlife sucks for straight people in San Francisco. But the good news is that there are better things to do here for fun. Book Clubs, Surfing, Kayaking, Mountain Biking (Some of the best trails are in the bay area IMHO), and of course volunteering at the Glide Memorial Church for the homeless people. This city is full of artsy people. She won?t have any trouble making friends if she is into art or any kind of social/political activism.
