Crippled?
So a few weeks ago, I was jumping on our trampoline with my 8-year-old cousin when I heard a popping noise in my left knee. I was throbbing in pain for a few hours, but the next day felt that I was on my way to healing since the pain felt duller.
Anyhow, the next day, I was walking around the city running errands with a distinguishable limp. As some of you may already know, Chicago's bum population is characterized by flirtatious perverts who will persistently cat-call on anything remotely female until she is out of earshot-----maybe even longer, but I personally, have never made the effort to monitor their persistence once I have traveled out of their vicinity.
What caught me by surprise was how many bums kept asking me what was wrong? Some asked me if I was tired, and of course the pervier ones offered to carry me to my destination. How/why is it that they didn't suspect that I might have been disabled? That my limp was a permanent result of an injury or a birth defect? (These bums were not ppl that I run into on a regular basis.)
It made me wonder, whether slightly physically challenged folks exude a vibe of tragedy...or maybe they are more at peace with their condition as they've had time to accept it? Generally, I try to keep my face as expression-less as I can, so I doubt that they could sense my frustration with obstructed movement..............or maybe they could?
It's fascinating to think of how some folks in this world are experienced spectators of the human carnival.
