crispy fried desi girl

so I spent the weekend on the lake and am about 12 shades darker than I was Saturday morning. .. saw mom and the first words out of her mouth (as predicted) were 'kaali ho kay aagi? socha kay koi kabhi tumse is haalat mai shaadi karai ga"..so evidently my fabulous tan has effectively taken me out of the running..

Am I the only desi girl that likes the sun? every one (almost) of my desi girlfriends slather on 200 proof sunscreen to go out and check the mail..

what is it about dark skin that is such a bad thing in our culture - are we (the desis) inherently racists?

will some of us remain forever single because we like water sports?

WHats the deal???

IdStar....thank you sweetie. I needed that. The way I have been feeling lately, I feel about as attractive as Oscar the Grouch, or Beavis and Butthead, or Michael Jackson.

Actually, Paradise924, I don't need to create a fan base for you. You already have one here! *sigh...what a cute chica*

Candy_berry: Amen to that! Beauty does come in all colors. Think about it, even within families you see a whole range of colors between parents, siblings, relatives, etc. so one can't be "color-superior". My coloring is light olive while one of my sisters is just like me and the other is a shade or two darker. Our brother is light, mom is light, and dad is a shade or two darker. So does that mean I love them all any more or less due to their skintones??? The issue of complexion superiority/inferiority among desis is rooted in history from the time the Aryan Huns conquered northern regions of Pakistan; it's a shame that such biases still exist. Be happy with whatever color Allah mian gave you! :)

I agree with idstar, Paradise is a very pretty girl and has a great complexion. I didn't see any brown or tan in skin either. I see a very pretty olive -Mediterranean glowing skin. I have seen a many pretty girls on Naseeb complaing that their skin is not light enough or the desi society considers them dark. I think that's ridiculos! Beauty exists in all colors.

Why thank you, IdStar...are you trying to create a fanbase for me here? Actually, I saw IdStar's pic also, and he is not a crispy fried Desi at all. (H)

Hey, just following up on some research: Paradise924 does in fact have a clear complexion and though not at all tanned/dark, she'd look just as spectacular if she was out in the sun.

There's some good research going on in this village. );

If we lived our lives according to our parents, we would all be married by 18, have 18 kids, and bleach ourselves invisible but we wouldn't shave/wax so the only way to find us would be from our hairy silhouettes (and that statement applies to both guys and girls).

Color is in. Paradise - if others can appreciate your beauty, they are totally missing out. Man, you sound like arbitrage opportunity 'cause all those dumb desis are stuck in colonial-inferiority-complex-gora-i s-better mentalities. You should post a pic for us to comment on your lovely complexion! Just teasing...I'm sure the people that know you would echo our thoughts.

where do those big, fat hangin out of their saree, aunties get of?...my exhusband had green eyes and white a$$ skin that hurt my eyes and the eeys of innocent bystandards at the beach because he GLOWED and at my wedding all the aunties were trippin cuz he was SO GORA - which translated into handsome and better than me...

The only reason a lot of my relatives do not think I am very pretty is because I am not fair-skinned. I am not dark either, according to Desi "standards", but exactly in-between. They compliment my figure, my feautures, my clear COMPLEXION, but deep down I know they all just don't consider me to be "pretty enough" cause I am too tan. Non-Desi people, however, like my skin-tone.
