Unrelated side note- Whenever any of you get a chance, please read 'No God but God' by Reza Aslan and Tariq Ramadan's 'Western Muslims and the future of Islam'... :)

Orientalism was my first exposure to Said. I used it extensively in my undergrad thesis exploring the biased interpretations of jihad in American media. It is so timeless and relevant, and unfortunately we still need to learn from it.

i agree with you Ruby, parts are a little slow to say the least, as good as it is there are parts i kind of skimmed, and parts i kept reading but never seemed to actually take in!

Orientalism was an amazing read, I've been meaning to go back to it for a revisit, that and James Frazer's 'The Golden Bough'... well, the abridged version anyway.

Heavy reading indeed... I remember reading it, not necessarily all that I read though...
