Cute and single (and looking to get married)

Okay, not really! But I knew if I wrote that you would have to read on! :)

So here is my question (I'm sure it has been posted before, but humor me):

Do you plan to marry a Libyan? Does your family expect you to marry only a Libyan? How important is it to stay within the Libyan culture?

I ask because I was courted by a great guy who was not Libyan (he was actually half Iranian). We were seriously discussing marriage, but things did not work out in the end. Alhamdulillah, everything happens for a reason. But after being in that relationship I was forced to decide how important Libyan culture is to me. For me, I don't have a real tie to Libya. I have never been to Libya and Islamic culture is far more important. I have never been one to say that I would marry only from one cultural group (although Syrians have always been on the "NO WAY" list---no offense) but I am starting to revise my stance. I am half Libyan and half American and full-time Muslimah--------And VERY PROUD OF IT! I am not in a rush to get married (Among other things, I really want to see Libya while I'm single and without a worry in the world) I just wonder if anyone else thinks along the same lines as me.

Salamulakum erverone... i must say... everyone makes really interesting comments... even the jokes are great.... one of the fellow libyan sisters told me about this village and would like to thank her... as far as the question "to marry or not to marry a libyan" i think its a personal matter but everyone should know... its the connection with Allah that keeps a relationship alive not the race...there is a haddith that says

1. Marry a girl for her Religion
2. For her Family
3. Money
4. Looks (physical beauty)

...its in this order... as for me i'm tryin to land all 4 of them... for all you brothers out there... its not easy...

libyan prince...go to libya when ur ready for your fourth wife and u wont have any trouble finding one...seriously the good man to woman ratio in the homeland are quite astonishing, that many girls are not ashamed to gain second/third/fourth wife status...I think even if you specifically say 'i'm marrying u to cook for me' you'll have some takers.

Don't Worry, Be happy is an amazing song..........I should post up the lyrics...........'here's a little song I wrote/ I want to sing it note for note/ so don't worry/ Be happy,.............In every life we have some trouble/ but when you worry you make it double/ so don't worry/ be happy,.................Cuz when you worry your face will frown/ and that'll bring everybody down/ so don't worry/ be happy...................OMG.....I have to find the lyrics because that's all I remember. PS- This song is my mom's favorite song. Its great for those people who are still learning english.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that there is a wrong or right answer Rihab. I was just wondering everyone's opinion on the matter. But you are right, it really depends on the people involved and the situation. Telluride, you are right, I know some pretty good Syrians too. And I don't plan on limiting myself. Only Allah knows what will happen in the end. I mean how weird would it be if I end up marrying a really great Syrian?! :) But if he were the right guy....SubhanAllah, you never know where your naseeb is at right now.....

Just to plug something in: We had an imam visit from another town the other day. At our request, he gave a lesson on marriage. He told us his story and the difficulties he faced. He said that at one point he was worried that he may never find the woman he was looking for when a very wise imam told him: "Don't worry. No one will marry your wife." In other words, the person perfect for you will not marry someone else. In the words of Michelle from Full House: "Don't Worry, be happy."

lol littlelibyan...'no way' to syrians huh? i used to say the same thing. But I donno hun, I've met some pretty fine and pretty terrific syrians. So i've totally revised my stance. I think i'd marry anyone, asmar, abyadh, 3arab or 3ajjam...whoever, as long as he's 'right'. Good men are a commodity, and i've never been the one to limit myself. But hey, to each his own. It's like rihab said, it's totally a matter of what works for you.
