Cutting back naseebing during Ramadan?

MINIMIZING TIME ON NASEEB DURING RAMADAN?

My opinion is that Ramadan is a time for worship or ibadah. It is a golden unique opportunity to get as many blessings as we can in this finite time. Naseeb, despite being a great resource to meet other Muslims, can take up a lot of time without us realizing it. Ramadan is not just about going hungry, but about submitting ourselves to Allah by abstaining from wordly desires during the day and in the few hours left after iftar, we can get extra blessings through worship. It will be hard to avoid the temptation to log on to naseeb but we have to try. If it is an addiction, it may be very hard to break, but sometimes we have to do things cold- turkey. Like smokers and caffeine addicts who stop during Ramadan.

Do you intend to minimize time on naseeb, and if so, how?

Like Humanitarian said, "this may be the only place I come to during ramadan on naseeb." (although my naseeb usage has already been minimized.. sheesh)

No intentions of actively cutting down. I'm a 'half full' kinda gal. :) And while I'm sure this Village will be awesome in centralizing Ramadan stuff, the JE world i'A will have good stuff too. :)

last year almost every JE was about ramadan which was awesome, and i think this VE idea will consolidate them and therefore 'waste' less time. so thanks for the idea lvely. i can only speak for myself but i found that b/c the naseeb server is so slow, going to JE to JE reading ended up taking an hour at every login session and i may have logged in maybe 3x a day some days. i've even written more than one JE about naseebaholics and how much time is spent before you realize it. i think for every good JE that 'justifies' naseeb time, there's also much prayer time (extra nafls, ), and reading Quran that could be done. i got some great duas last year from naseeb links and even shared them with lots of pple for group duas etc etc, but i didn't read much quran last year so i felt deficient in my ibadah. that's just me and i intend this year to be different. this may be the only place I come to during ramadan on naseeb. :)

I agree with you lvely247, last year when personal journals ruled the show, I picked up a number of excellant duas and links to duas through naseeb. Naseeb, was a helpful resource. What I would try to cut down is the banter, hehe, we see a lot of that on here, and it gets pretty time consuming keeping up with who said what and not to mention, who rebutted who. :)

kinda sorta echoing meowbilli - 'naseebing' seems to carry such negative connotations. but how about naseebing for engaging in informative articles? engaging in thought-provoking dialogue regarding Ramadan and religious issues? engaging in support from peers, such as this Ramadan Village? get my point?

it's like seeing a glass half empty/half full. so if you see naseebing as addictive, negatively impacting your life, and a mack-machine portal - yea, then by all means - MINIMIZE! hehe But for the rest, i'll see you in JEs and VEs! :)

No, I don't intend to minimize my time on Naseeb.

On any regular day, I am on and off sporadically...or have it somewhere in the background. I work, as I'm sure most of you do, so I can only log on at home. The amount of time I am actually "on" Naseeb ends up being about half an hour, which I don't think is too much.

KOMI, are you happy...I finally joined!

hi Hum, yeah Ill be naseebing less, inshaAllah, just like my caffiene addiction, I prep early. Cut down gradually and by the time the month starts youre good to go. And I dont think we have to do things cold turkey, especially when we knows whats imminent. Theres so much wisdom in following the prophets example. Cold old turkeys never appetizing. :)

Assuming you are working, spend your shift at work, 8 hours in the musjed and 8 hours sleeping. Or what I am planning to do inshalla this Ramada is to convert one of the rooms in my parents house to a mosala so I can do qeyam (in the first 20 days). I think it will be totally different experience, no computer, no cell phone, no internet and of course no bed!!

since everyone in this VE is writing about naseebing (which was the second part of this VE) , i'm gonna make two separate VEs, so that people will address the first part, about Ramadan resolutions too!

Oh shoot...I was thinking of spending more time on Naseeb. It would replace my lunch time and 10 snack breaks Im used to!

yes, i intend on minimising my naseeb.com on-time.. this is my general resolution for this year and besides my 15 billion other things i need to do, i want to spend my extra time reading the quran straight-through again, insha Allah.

im not going to stop cold turkey, but i think i need to cut back. insha Allah
