dancing!!!


so much dancing and chances to learn! Check out dcdancenet.com and there's always the virginia ballroom. Being in a huge multicultural metropolis like DC is great for enjoying local culture. If I had to name some dance forms that are uniquely "American", swing/jazz/blues dancing has to be part of the answer. Enjoy!!!

good luck getting the WolfTrap tickets! I once saw the Gypsy Kings concert and they are really wonderful! As for the dancing stuff, I bet you can also find reputable formal instructors for Flamenco dancing at a studio called the Chevy Chase Ballroom. I've never been there, but I know people who are great ballroom dancers that take lessons there. Enjoy!

checked out the site. the dance moves are cool, esp w an awesome song blastin in the back. (i started with my wannabe swing liking when mambo no. 5 by lou bega came out. haha rem that? was just fun twistin our feet n swingin each other around.) for now, im hooked on my current dance endeavors. im more of a torso n hand movements person. cant really express myself without them. :(

what i wouldnt give to learn flamenco properly one day... it's on my list. kinda sorta similar to bellydancing with zhils (finger cymbals).

Wait a minute. Did you just say that the Gypsy Kings play somewhere in VA??? WTH? I'm assuming u mean they GET played, as in by the dj. Don't get my heart pounding like that... the reigning Kings of Flamenco, live, and here in VA? I'd be there in a heartbeat. n thanks for the link, btw. Will check that out.

Speaking of dancing, the Gypsy Kings (a rockin' awesome Spanish group) usually plays at the Filene Center on Wolf Trap farms (right off of Rte. 7 close, roughly between McLean and Great Falls, closer to Great Falls).

well, nowhere really. i taught myself, and some lady who supposedly teaches professionals all over d US n has videos n stuff saw me during a one time gig she did at my gym, n talked me into takin (expensive) lessons with her. (she also tried repeatedly to get me to go professional. hmm, yeah, i think she'd have to take that up with daddy dearest, tho. ;oP) basically my sister n i were paying her to dance with each other, cuz she wasnt teachin at all. instead, she was so into watchin herself in the mirror, n dint teach jack squat. but my sis n i went back to dancin alone weekly. we're gettin our certifications this summer, i'A, n will be teachin (chicks only, of course) classes in possibly the mason freedom center towards dumfries, n maybe some gyms. when my dance room is finished, i will offer lessons at my home then.

this is awesome. ive always loved swing, and used to jokingly dance an amateur version w my girls at get-togethers. always put me in a cheery, goofy mood. haha. never took lessons, tho. maybe one day. currently im doin belly dancing, n concentrate on perfecting that. considered nat'l competitions but it's kinda not the direction i wanna head towards. next i plan to perfect piano, salsa n merengue, n possibly try my hand at ballet, which is the foundation for belly dancing ne-way. hmm m tryin to convince dad to build part of our unfinished basement into a dance studio for me. sorry for all the babble. dance is just my therapy that keeps me sane in the most stressing of times. thanks for the link. =)
