Dating


How many of you have dated in the past or are currently dating? For those of you who don't date, what are your takes on people who do date? I'm asking this because I've seen an increase in Muslims "dating" and I always thought it was prohibited to have those types of relations before marriage. What are some of your opinions?

andromeda/ paradise.. hooray for decent dating/ + courting... i think i would like to follow the route where families get involved early on.. but will (definitely) get my kid to.. heheh

Andromeda, I would agree with your concept of "getting to know the guy through families" but isn't that a sort of formal dating in itself?

Andromeda, when I have kids someday, I would prefer them to meet a future husband or wife using "the method where families are involved and allow two people to get to know each other around the family, on outings and also give them some time to spend alone, just the two of them chatting..." Basically, if my young daughter was seeing a man she was romantically interested in, I would want to be aware of it from early on in the relationship. I would want her to be honest with me and not hide things from me. I would make it clear to her that she need not be afraid/ashamed to tell me anything. I would want to make sure that she was "dating" the guy for the intent of getting to know him for marriage. Plus, I wouldn't want her to start seeing some guy that is inappropriate for her, without my knowledge. I would consider "inappropriate" to be non-Muslim, or too young.

Labs: hahahaha....thank god Naseeb has caught up with the technology. DC: I am with you...dating is so important these days. BTW, if you guys get a chance, I have written a personal JE on DATING....so please check out my personal JE on this stuff :) I am all up for it...and it doesnt mean you have to be sexually involved either :)

And on dating....

is dating more openly permitted or tolerated in certain communitites.. eg. my sis in law is bengali and tells me her whole community knows when someone's son's going out with someone else's daughter and they tease the respective parents about engagement dates etc., (much to the parents' embarrassment) but i don't think any pakistani communities i know are that nonchalant about dating
