Day 03, Ramadan Message (Deen of Ease -Iftar)

In the name of Allah, the Source of all Mercy, the Mercy Giver

Golden Gems?
?It is We Who have placed you with authority on earth, and provided you therein with means for the fulfilment of your life: small are the thanks that you give!? (Qur'an 7 verse 10)

?Pure & Precious Pearl?
DEEN OF EASE: BREAKING THE FAST (IFTAR)!
We have been strongly advised to end our fast as soon as we are certain that the Sun has set. The Prophet and his companions ?used to be the first to break their fast at the end of the day and the last to have sahuur.? (Bayhaqi). There is no piety in delaying the breaking of your fast.

Before you end the day?s fast, make a short prayer: The Prophet said: ?As a fasting person is about to end his fast, he is certain to have a prayer answered.? (Ibn Majah) This golden opportunity is a rarity. It is exclusively available for a few. On top of all these, it is guaranteed to be answered. The Prophet said: ?Three types of person are certain to have their prayers answered: a fasting person until he ends his fast, and a just ruler, and an oppressed person.? (Tirmidhi).

Further, the Prophet used to repeat this prayer: ?Thirst is quenched; the veins are watered and the reward is certain, God willing.? You can make up your own prayers and in whatever language you desire. The companions of the Rasul used to make different supplication. For example, Abdullah used to pray at fast-breaking time: ?My Lord! I appeal to you to forgive me with your mercy which encompasses all.?

The supplication for breaking the fast, which the Rasul is reported to have repeatedly uttered, is: ?My Lord! For your sake I have fasted and with your provisions I end my fast.? (ALLAHUMMA! LAKU SUMTU, WA ALAA RIZKIKA AFTARTU.)

Break the fast with some dates or other fruits or a cup of water. The Prophet himself emphasised the importance of breaking the fast this way, when he said: ?If one of you is fasting, let him end his fast by eating a few dates, and if dates are not available, then let him drink some water. Water purifies.? (Ahmad & Tirmidhi). While hurrying to pray the Maghrib (sunset) salaah, you should not forget to terminate the fast first. Anas reported that: ?the Prophet used to end his fast with eating a few dates before offering Maghrib prayers. If no dates were available, he would sip some water.? (Abu Dawud).

What if you are very hungry and the food is ready? If you are sure your mind will be on the already prepared meal, then you are advised to eat your food before embarking on Maghrib prayer. Anas quoted the Prophet as saying: ?If your evening meal is served, then start by eating before offering Maghrib. Do not hasten to pray before eating.? (Bukhari & Muslim) Only problem is that your Maghrib will be delayed, so don?t make it a habit. Islam is simple and realistic. It is a balance or realities and its all to our benefit; because our worship or fasts do not nourish Him. Indeed, Allah desires ease and success for us.
?Say: ?Verily, my Lord has guided me to a way that is straight, - a religion of right,- the path (trod) by Abraham the true in Faith, and he (certainly) joined not gods with Allah?.? Qur'an 6 verse 161.

?Rare Gems
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ?The (Hell) Fire is surrounded by all kinds of desires and passions, while Paradise is surrounded by all kinds of disliked undesirable things.? (Bukhari)
