Day 09, Ramadan Message (Beyond Comprehension)
In the name of Allah, the Source of all Mercy, the Mercy Giver
Golden Gems?
?For to Allah belong the forces of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom.? (Qur'an 48 verse 7)
?Pure & Precious Pearl?
BEYOND OUR COMPREHENSION!
Why do disasters happen? Allah knows best. Humans struggle to comprehend the logic behind Allah?s actions. The story below best illustrates the difference between our limited knowledge and the eternal knowledge of Allah. It provides an insight into High Understanding. Khidhr was sent to Musa to teach him how perceptions change when advance Information is properly comprehended. It shows how our limited knowledge causes us (like Musa) to be impatient and condemnatory:
?So they found one of Our servants, on whom We had bestowed Mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught knowledge from Our own Presence.
Moses said to him: "May I follow you, on the footing that you teach me something of the (Higher) Truth which you have been taught?"
(The other) said: "Verily you will not be able to have patience with me!"
"And how can you have patience about things about which your understanding is not complete?"
Moses said: "You will find me, if Allah so will, (truly) patient: nor shall I disobey you in aught."
The other said: "If then you would follow me, ask me no questions about anything until I myself speak to you concerning it."
So they both proceeded until, when they were in the boat, he made a hole therein. Said Moses: "Have you made a hole in it in order to drown those in it? Truly you have done a strange thing!"
He answered: "Did I not tell you that you can have no patience with me?"
Moses said: "Rebuke me not for forgetting, nor grieve me by raising difficulties in my case."
Then they proceeded: until, when they met a young man, he slew him. Moses said: "Have you slain an innocent person who had slain none? Truly a foul (unheard of) thing you have done!"
He answered: "Did I not tell you that you can have no patience with me?"
(Moses) said: "If ever I ask thee about anything after this, keep me not in your company: then you would have received (full) excuse from my side."
Then they proceeded: until, when they came to the inhabitants of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused them hospitality. They found there a wall on the point of falling down, but he built it up straight. Moses said: "If you had wished, surely you could have exacted some recompense (charged) for it!"
He answered: "This is the parting between me and thee: now will I tell you the interpretation of (those things) over which you was unable to hold patience.
"As for the boat, it belonged to certain men in dire want: they plied on the water: I but wished to render it unserviceable, for there was after them a certain king who seized on every boat by force.
"As for the youth, his parents were people of Faith, and we feared that he would grieve them by obstinate rebellion and ingratitude (to Allah and humanity).
"So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection.
"As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan children in the Town; there was, beneath it, a buried treasure, to which they were entitled: their father had been a righteous man: So your Lord desired that they should attain their age of full strength and get out their treasure - a mercy (and favour) from your Lord. I did it not of my own accord. Such is the interpretation of (those things) over which you was unable to hold patience." Qur?an 18 verses 65-82
The Prophet said about this story: ?May the mercy of Allah be upon us and upon Moses. If he had patience, he would have seen marvels from his Companion?.? (Abu Dawud). Yusuf Ali (translator of the Qur'an) noted: ?There are paradoxes in life; apparent loss may be real gain; apparent cruelty may be real mercy; returning good for evil may really be justice and not generosity. Allah's wisdom transcends all human calculation.?
?Rare Gems
When the Prophet (pbuh) was asked about the plague, he said: ?That was a means of torture which Allah used to send upon whomsoever He wished, but He made it a source of mercy for the believers, for anyone who is residing in a town in which this disease is present, and remains there and does not leave that town, but has patience and hopes for Allah's reward, and knows that nothing will befall him except what Allah has written for him, then he will get such reward as that of a martyr.? (Bukhari)
