TAQWAH IN FIVES
The major objective of Ramadan is gaining Taqwah . (Qur'an 2 verse 183) Ramadan provides us with the opportunity to contemplate and act. When we contemplate we gain taqwah. To gain taqwah , the scholars have agreed that Contemplation is of five types: Contemplating Allah?s Signs results in affirming the oneness of Allah (tawheed) and in its Conviction; contemplating Allah?s Blessings result in loving Allah; contemplating Allah?s Promise (of reward and the Paradise) results in the desire to do good; contemplating Allah?s Punishment results in Fear and Awe for Him; and contemplating one?s shortcomings in obedience despite Allah?s blessings and mercy towards oneself results in a sense of shame and humility.
But it is so easy to lose the taqwah, particularly when our priorities are wrong. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ?There will come a time for my Ummah when they will love five things and forget five things: they will love this life and forget the life to come; they will love property and forget the grave; they will love wealth and forget the Judgement (Day) ; they will love their children and forget the Truth; and they will love themselves and forget Allah. They have nothing to do with me and I have nothing to do with them.?
What are the sign of those who have taqwah ? Uthman Ibn Affan (May Allah be pleased with him) answered this question: ?The sign of a God-Conscious (taqwah) person are five. One, he does not sit except with someone who is concerned for the Religion and has control over his sexual desires and his tongue; two, if a great fortune befalls him from the Dunya, he deems it a trial; three, if he finds a practice to be from the religion, he clings to it, though it may seem insignificant; further, he does not fill his stomach with the Halaal fearing that haram may be mixed with it; and he supposes that all of the people will be saved and that his soul will be perished.?
Why can?t everyone have taqwah? Is it that difficult? Yes. Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) mentioned five things, which prevents people form attaining that level. These are: ?Contentment with ignorance, covetousness over this world (Dunya), miserliness over what is surplus, insincerity in actions and conceit over one?s opinion.?
However, Allah in His infinite Mercy has made it easy for the person of taqwah to have his duaa and desires fulfilled. Allah does not allow him to ask without being ready to answer him. The Rasul (peace be upon him) said: ?Allah does not give someone five things until He has prepared another five things for him: he does not give him the gratitude except that He has prepared for him an increase in his provision and sustenance; He does not give him supplication (duaa) except that He has prepared its award; He does not give him the asking for forgiveness (istighfar) except that He has prepared for him forgiveness; He does not give him the asking for repentance except that He has prepared for him its acceptance; and He does not give him charity except that He has prepared for him its reward.?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ?Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person?.? (Bukhari)

Praises be to Allah who has spared our life to witness half of the Ramadan, we beseech him to extend our lives beyond the month so that we can benefit from all its reward and blessings.
So the fast is half way, are we in our goals?
Today, the attached Ramadan message looks into nurturing taqwah.
May Allah make us acquire the taqwah, give us the ability to sustain it, and make it benefit us in this life and the life hereafter.
Was-salaam Alaykum.
