Day 16, Ramadan Message (Elevated & Honoured)
In the name of Allah, the Source of all Mercy, the Mercy Giver
Golden Gems?
?We are your protectors in this life and in the Hereafter: therein shall you have all that your souls shall desire; therein shall you have all that you ask for! A hospitable gift from the Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful!? (Qur'an 41 verses 31-2)
?Pure & Precious Pearl?
FAST TO BE ELEVATED & HONOURED!
Talut (Saul) led a group of people on a military expedition. When they were about to cross a river, he instructed his soldiers that Allah wants to test them with the river. ?When Talut set forth with the armies he said: ?Allah will test you at the stream; if any drinks of its water he goes not with my army; only those who taste not of it go with me; a mere sip out of the hand is excused.? But they all drank of it except a few.? (Qur'an 2 verse 249)
Their desire was put to test. They failed because the material man is controlled by desires. Those who received genuine tuition in the school of Ramadan would have conquered those desires. The goal of Ramadan is to raise you above your desire-driven self, which is the level for the lowest of the low. ?We have indeed created man in the best of moulds. Then do We abase him (to be) the lowest of the low. Except such as believe and do righteous deeds: for they shall have a reward unfailing.? (Qur?an 95 verse 4-6) This is why you must fast, to be elevated and honoured.
Allah acknowledges that we must fast so that we can learn self-restraint and this is piety. A fasting soul is trained to purify his heart, lower his gaze and to control his thoughts and limbs. Then his conscience is sharpened as he migrates closer to Allah; as such he becomes his own watchdog. There is no external being who can monitor his genuine wholehearted submission to Allah. Only Allah sees through his intention and secret activities. This is why The Prophet said: "Allah said, 'All the deeds of Adam's sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it?.? (Bukhari)
Ramadan is the month of multiple goodness. Imagine! You get between10-700 rewards for every single good deed you do. But in Ramadan, it is well beyond the multiple of 700. The Rasul said: "If any one of you improve (follows strictly) his Islamic religion then his good deeds will be rewarded ten times to seven hundred times for each good deed and a bad deed will be recorded as it is." (Bukhari) But Ramadan is different; Allah rewards it in greater magnitude. Hence, this is a season for good harvest and multiple rewards. You are abundantly rewarded for every single good deed you do every moment in Ramadan.
Our early brothers and sisters in faith would cry in its anticipation for it is a season for reaping in abundance. They made rivalled sacrifices during the month. Their Ramadan nights and days were equal in devotional activities. Eyes tearful, souls humbled, they spent the nights bowing and prostrating, while the days were spent in worship, recitation, da?wah, charity and learning.
Indeed, you must fast because it is healthy. Your body organs are overhauled, your heart, stomach, liver and blood are appeased; your spirit is brightened, and lively; your character is disciplined, your wanton ambition is re-directed, and your carnal desires are dispelled. Then your prayers are answered; you are wholeheartedly purified. Why wouldn?t you really want to fast?
?Rare Gems
Allah's Messenger (pbuh) said, "The deeds of anyone of you will not save you (from the (Hell) Fire)." They said, "Even you (will not be saved by your deeds), O Allah's Messenger?" He said, "No, even I (will not be saved) unless and until Allah bestows His Mercy on me. Therefore, do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately, and worship Allah in the forenoon and in the afternoon and during a part of the night, and always adopt a middle, moderate, regular course whereby you will reach your target (Paradise)." (Bukhari)
