Deepa Mehta's "Water"
Have you guys seen it? I really liked it due to the subject matter (practice of "sati"/widow burning in Hinduism) and the way it was illustrated in cinematic form. The little girl Chuiya's acting was good. I also liked John Abraham (but of course!) and Lisa Ray in it. Their acting was pretty good as well and their under-the-surface, tension-beneath-the-waves type of chemistry was awesome. Too bad Kalyani (Lisa Ray) drowned herself at the end and that Narayan (John John) went off to another city.
Earth, Fire, Water...this completes the Mehta trilogy...wonder why she never entertained the idea of making a flick called Air...it would've fit right in :)

when seema biswas asks the pundit ji..."what if your conscious conflicts with your faith?" I can see how this movie may not have done so well with the Hindus...esp the more traditional ones...
