Desi Fashion: Is it hard as an Asian woman to find clothes in a western market?

Ok, my question is this: Being a petite Asian woman, (5'3, 110 lbs), and noting that my body and build are common among other Asian women, I find it hard to find clothes that truly fit. Are there other women out there like me who would like to see a line come out that concentrates not on the uber tall (or even the medium height), but on the more petite women that make up a majority of the Asian female population? Are you all tired of wanting a hot pair of jeans only to find out they're too long on you and you have to take them in, but when you do, it doesn't fit right? Isn't it time someone started questioning the notion that only tall is beautiful? I would love to see a model walk down the runway one day (or heck, let ALL the models be short) wearing couture that was MADE for a petite woman!!! What do y'all think?

If your willing to pay just that little bit extra, you can find some really nice petite clothes. I am a 5'1 thats even worse!..French Connections have now started their leg 30 range..which is fab, Zara is brilliant, ID is really good.

My sister and I are both 5'3 but we don't have too much trouble. Sometimes pants are too long but lots of stores (Express, Limited, etc) have petite or short sizes. The average American woman is 5'4 so it's not too much of a difference. The bigger problem for me is finding clothes that are modest enough.

Naz, I agree it is difficult for women, but there at quite a few boutique clothiers that do cater to petite sizes. I live in the DC area, & I know for a fact the following carry petite sizes: Benneton for women, their division called 'Sicily' really has excellent line(petite sizes). French Connectin (FCUK) line is a pretty trendy line also, I have bought clothes for females friends (petite) and yes, their jeans really do fit perfectly without alterations. Zara, is another excellent boutique..

The UK market has several good, fasionable high street stores with petite ranges.. I think they have websites too.. Next next.com) and Principles for example principles.co.uk) - also try European brands as they may be similar.. if you have relatives in the UK maybe you can ask them to order online for you and parcel you some stuff..

That seems to be a good opportunity for an alteration services provier.
