I agree with Smartgirl - Rang de Basanti was good.

Oh yea Sawdes was really good and so was Dil Se! I was actually surprised by the ending in Dil Se and then in Law School I met this girl who was part of that ethnic minority portrayed by Manisha Koirala's character pretty interesting and so far ahead of its time...

I like Kal ho no ho a lot too and Dil wale dulhania.. wasn't a huge fan of Veer Zara just cause it was sorta been there done that... but it wasn't badly done and better than all these copies these days...

It just seems that the golden age of desi cinema is gone with Amitabh movies... that just plain rocked!

Veer Zaara was soooo good! I agree

Probably THE best desi films I've ever seen:
1. Veerzaara
2. Kal Ho Na Ho
3. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

In response to the request for flicks for thinkers, I think Dil Se was awesome. It's one of my all-time favorites. Recently, I thought Swades was also very well done.

These would be my top 5 recs! Enjoy. :)

OH man I'v seen all the 'classic" on the list you mentioend! I did see aitbar and though J.A. made great eye candy it was a totally copy of weird western thrillers... I watch so many non-desi movies that usually I can guess its a bad copy w/in mins. I did saw Rain Coat, Parineeta, and a few other artsy ones that were good.. any word on this Rang De Basanti? its playing in the Theatres in Boston...

i like movies with john abraham...he makes it worthwhile...but haven't been in tune with any of them lately ...last movie of his that i saw was with amitabh and bipasha where he's that scary, serial killer boyfriend...'Aitbaar' was the name...it was good!
