Develop Pakistan Organization

Hello Everyone

Thanks to all of you who have contacted me in response to the Earthquake in Pakistan. Fortunately, all my immediate family is fine but everyone is in complete shock. With about 45,000 dead, it's hard not to feel that we have lost something in our own lives (my first school where I went for kindergarden was completely pancaked by the quake, killing and injuring countless children, Samiha's maid in Islamabad lost her whole family and Tania's servant's village is in shambles). I really appreciate the emotional support. It is just as important as the financial support. In response to this devastating tragedy, my friends Tania, Samiha and I have organized the following fundraising mechanisms.

Fundraiser for Earthquake Relief:

Venue:
Tuesday October 18th from 6pm-10pm or later
Heritage India Restaurant
1337 Connecticut Ave, NW
Washington, DC
(Nearest Metro Station is the Dupont Circle Metro on the Red Line: Dupont South exit)

How it will work:
Option 1: Make a donation to the donation box in cash or check.
Option 2: Pay regular prices for appetizers and drinks and half the amount you pay will be donated.

The Cause:

If you donate in cash or check, the money will go into directly providing assistance to the village of Mansehra . It is a village outside the city of Islamabad and I know many of the residents. This was the Epicenter of this disastrous earthquake and has left ONE HUNDRED Percent of the inhabitants without anything. It is also sad to report that a lot of the survivors are the children of people who have perished under homes and businesses. They are currently sitting in the wide open with little to no relief services. Our plan is to send money to Pakistan via Tania's Grandfather who will personally purchase much needed items like blankets (surprisingly the terrain in Pakistan in these months undergoes very harsh climates), food, tents and other shelter providing items and bring it to the actual village of Mansehra. The smallest donation will make a much bigger difference then we realize. I say if we can get one blanket on one child, we will have accomplished a great triumph!

Additionally, with any appetizers or drinks you buy, Heritage India will donate 50% to an organization, most likely, the Develop Pakistan Organization (funds will then be directed to the Eidhi Foundation). Here is the website: www.developpakistan.org

If you are unable to attend this event or if you are not in the area. You can contribute to us by Mail. Anyone interested in participating in this attempt to help please mail a check to the following address and I will personally guarantee that it reaches the ones who need it the most and as
immediately as possible. WE WILL BE SENDING THE MONEY NEXT WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 12, 2005. Of course, we can send any funds thereafter but will be trying to get it out as soon as
possible. (For those of us who are Muslim, you could consider using your zaka'at fund for this purpose if you haven't already allocated it elsewhere):

Checks Payable to: Tania Tanvir

I hope you can all make it. Please pass this on to everyone you know. The more the merrier.
