mc, i think there was a series of cartoons comissioned by some author/ newspaper in denmark, with muslims as the subject.. one of these showed a collection of Prophets sitting on a cloud, another showed Prophet Muhammad with his turban in the shape of a lit bomb.. the offence being caused by the terrorist reference as well as the fact that our prophets are not supposed to be portrayed graphically.

the cartoons were reprinted in papers in various countries including france, italy, germany and spain in the name of 'free speech'. news.bbc.co.uk

Good point alia about violence v. apathy.. as the saying goes, it's the large silent moderate majority who fail to speak up during a crisis.. leaving the extreme fringes to take things into their own hands *:

Khan31---cute but hardly ;)

Thanks for the update Labs. I'm just glad that people have begun talking about this and thinking a bit more about the power that we have to change things without violence. I posted this all over the place on Naseeb and its been nice to get people to resist the tendency toward apathy. Just think---how would Rasulallah (S), Gandi, King, or Mandela have used the power of the internet? How quickly could they have enacted change if they had been able to effortlessly and immediately reach out to so many people? When we turn to violence first or use these resources just to placate ourselves while those around us engineer our oppression, we do these men and ourselves a great disservice.

thanks for this alia, the vote's now 65 : 34 yes: no; the text vote carried out in the uk by radio 5 live registered only 3000 votes in total .. but 90,000 no votes (the day after polls had closed) .. still sends a strong message.

BTW, we don't need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to grassroots protests. MPAC is an excellent organization. I used to belong to the original Chicago chapter and was very proud of the influence that we can exert without violence and within the existing political structure. MPAC members are well positioned, frequently sought to speak on national media venues, and have even been nominated for presidential appointments.
