Do You LOVE Your Job?
Do you LOVE your job? If not, what would you like to be doing?
hey thanks Hsheriff
when i was in college i decided to take some health sciences as alternative choices while taking all ma commerce courses. After graduating and trying out Management Information systems at the univ level ... i felt it wasnt for me. So i decided to go bk to college for another 2 yrs to complete my health sciences dip... which was the best move i ever made. Finally i decided on Nutrition - absoultely amazing... cuz i really love working with patients! i believe one shud truly choose the profession that brings satisfaction to their heart. :)
Cool I have a commerece degree too... I know lots of people who did commerece and chose a different career path... I think its great finding what you love :)
i definately love my job....... i cudnt imagine doing anything else. i have a degree in commerce but didnt really find it thrilling:( Alhumdulilah that Allah swt directed me in this way.... cuz the satisfaction i get from being a clinical nutritionist is great. I love being able to help others better their lives:) makes me happy!!!!
Delightful_s>> where you in Vancouver before? I'm from Vancouver and might be looking to move to dubai in a year or so. People have told me some "fairy tale" stories about dubai and I don't believe it. As a Canadian, do you like it and if you had to do it again, would you move to Dubai.
I just moved to Dubai about ten months ago and I got a job with a software company here doing sales and marketing .. I have always been more of a people person .. and although I love what I do .. the job I loved most and could not wait to get there was when I was waiting tables at a middle eastern restaurant back in Canada ..
Despite the weird stares and the stereotype associated with being a waitress such as I must not be educated and all that and despite the rudeness alot of the clientele showed like leaving me two cent tips .. I loved every minute of it .. I loved it when people said the food was great .. especially if I'd just made the tabboule in the back cuz the chef was too busy .. and I loved it when they smiled and said thanks for the great service .. I loved it on Saturday night's when there were parties and people came to have fun and even when some stupid bi tchy customer thought she could get away with insulting me .. and I just smiled back .. I loved it ..
It never felt like work .. I'd get home with my feet hurting me to the point of tears and I'd get home at 3 am after clearing up all the tables and making sure chairs were up and dishes were laid on the tables again .. I seriously loved it ..
I guess you're right its not a job when you love doing it ..
Ssahmed.... I guess I'm not the only one... what do you exactly do and what are your plans to be happier? If there is such a thing in the business world...lollllllllll I'm a little jaded right now... such a shame at such a young age.. :)
Well, I worked 5 years for an international finance firm. I hated it so much, I started to have sleeping problems. It was really stressful and unenjoyable. I told the "head boss" that I was born to be an entrepreneur and not an employee... that I hated my job and don't know what to do about it... he told me that I had lots of guts to walk in his office and tell him this, since I have never met him before.... I told him that I was not afraid and fear is what holds us back.... he said I respect your confidence.... I said, I hate my job so much, I have nothing to lose... he gave me a 20% raise and I took a sabbatical the next month...... the point I'm trying to make, you love your job for what you do and not how much you get paid.... I know the more money you make the happier you think you are!, but there comes a point where additional money does not do anything for you (it can actually upset you, because it is not money that you are after... but change).... SO, I have started my own company last year and inshallah I will be a better boss than my last employer :)
The advice I always give to others is...DON'T TAKE ADVICE! This is because anything I have ever done that has been good fo me has come from me going against the advice of my family...Okay, sounds pretty terrible. Let me explain: after finishing college, I applied for a teaching program in Japan and called my mother up and said I was moving to Japan for the year to teach English in public school. My parents were not totally cool with the idea, and their irritating skeptic friends surfaced, other Desi parents who asked them if they were nervous about me going to a country where I didn't know the language, etcetera. That decision has influenced my career move and I DO LOVE MY JOB!
I was told not to major in sociology and political science--ignored that advice and found no negative results.
I work in education but before that was discouraged from going to graduate school and getting a masters in education rather than pursuing an MBA. My famiy members thought I was nuts. Basically, I believe that people will always give advice but listening to yourself always yields the best outcomes. sounds cheezy and perhaps i'm off topic here...so, if wasn't doing the job i have, i would definitely want to be in sports medicine or be on tv. :)
Life is not a rehearsal. Do what you enjoy or make an effort to find what your passion is and exploit that passion into a part-time side occupation. That's what i do.
