it is wrong. that's basically it. it says there are some steps to follow if a couple isnt getting along. the last part says to punish them lightly (i hope Katayon will include that verse:)... but I believe that when the Prophet (pbuh) was asked about it, he said that it is like the tap of a miswak (a little stick used to clean teeth)... so... id say according to the Prophet of Islam, it is not allowed to HIT a woman. in fact, it is a huge sin.

good question, i am going to create a JE and list what different translators of the Qur'an have said
