Don't Use Google Desktop

The new version of its desktop search software comes as Google is hand over data about what people are looking for.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation said the latest version of Google Desktop posed a risk to privacy.

This is because a feature in the software lets Google keep personal data on its servers for up to 30 days.

Google says it plans to encrypt all data transferred from users' hard drives and restrict access.

that's as may be.. but they don't have the right to misuse information they hold.. any info held by IT companies doesn't automatically become the property of the government (unless bush has devised some flaky law to cover this)

labs, its not just US residents .. most of the western world also uses Google and just about any other US based internet information site ...

so the US government can also check up on what guy you have been googling as of late .. ;)

mali1969, your IP address and whatever query that you type in is also stored on their servers...just a few weeks ago, the US government asked Google to handover all of that search query data, and so far, Google has resisted.

thus, they can pinpoint the exact date and time you searched for "zeba bakhtiar racy pics" or "aishwariya rai rain dance scene" on google.com ;)

But I can't do without Google Desktop! It's so useful! And it even gives me headsup on new VEs! I think it's worth the slight feelings of paranoia...!
