That aint the only scary one, Choti.----------------------------- ----------------------------- One time (dream on night 1) I was being abusive to a person within my dream and saying how dare you do this and that to me. On night 2 I had the same dream where I was abusing the person. Only this time I was hitting him. When he asked me why I was being horrible to him I said:

'Have you forgotten already? I told you yesterday why I was beating you!'

Here's a crazy one for you people to chow on:

I wanted to know where a distant friend was working. I never got to ask her for some xyz reason. But then one day I had a dream and it was a voice only - no visuals. It quickly said 'Marble Arch' and that was it. For some strange reason I knew that my friend was working at/or would be eventually working at Marble Arch.------------------------------ ----------------------------------- Life goes on, five years pass and we meet up. After all the 'how are you's' I ask where she's working. She says:

'I've just recently started workingn in Marble Arch!'

i have a variety of dreams, several of which include Arjun Rampal breaking down my bedroom door. i don't know what it means, but i don't care as i enjoy the dream immensely.

my dreams are always strange - rarely have bad dreams. however i have noticed that i am never alone in any of my dreams and i am constantly on the move from one place to another.

however at this moment of time, i too am suffering from sleep deprivation and soon will be hallucinating naseeb chat requests floating in this room, all around me!

I (vaguely)remember studying dreaming for my thesis and being staggered at the sheer lack of literature on the subject. You're right, science still doesn't understand why we even need to sleep and why dreaming (Rapid Eye Movement sleep - although it's been recently discovered that we also dream outside of REM) is so important to our mental health. (btw, yes, everyone DOES dream - some just don't remember it - you can train yourself to, though!) But, wierdly, rats who were deprived of dream sleep eventually withered and died so it is crucial. Humans who have gone on sleep deprivation marathons tend to start hallucinating by 72 hours and eventually fall into a deep psychosis - the brain will then start to force microsleeps after this so it's pretty much impossible to deprive yourself to the point of barin shutdown! The best bet from science is that the brain needs some downtime to structure all the information that has flooded in during the day (kinda like a massive filing exercise) in the same way a computer needs regular defrags. If we are deprived of this our brain basically crashes! This would explain why dreams tend to be about recent events or things that have been on our mind, even subconsciously. Fascinating subject, though!

Well dreams have a few functions and are definitely at the heart of our creativity/thinking process (that excludes dreams of far away places with gorgeous creatures pampering you!)
From a religious perspective, it is interesting to notice that when facing an important choice, we're advised to do the istikhara prayer which should result in the answer given to us in the form of a dream (rather that we dream of what to do).
I hand it to you Umer for your comments too
