On a serious note, that's what we get for trying to show that we know English in areas that might not be necessary to...Like in Egypt...I wish to see us proud once of our Arabic and our heritage just like the French or the Germans...

The scenes were funny as it is such a sad yet typical reflection of Egypt...typicallllll...but honestly was embarrassed by some of the comments/phrases used in it that I felt ruined it a bit );

However, I laughed so hard till my sides hurt at the pictures on the side..and especially the comments under them :D

Did you see the one where the drink mix "Tang" is called "Tank"? lol..or the little snacks that resemble the " microsoft windows" icon, lolll...Oh my Gosh, aren't we something! :D

I even noted our famous masraweyeen picture :)

right, egyptians can find humour in even the most black situations

My father told me some jokes that got out after the defeat of '67, somethings like:

"eeh elly te7otto 3al raml yegry? el 3askary el masry" :)

it's really remarkable. But do you really think it's special to egyptians? i mean, when i watch night shows here, they are also funny and have a nice sense of humour

The Egyptian sense of Humor...our everlasting trademark...and reinforced with one of the latest songs: "w bekhefet damo masry..w kol masry Allah 3aleh.."

I was actually hesitant to pass around some of the bird-flu jokes when they first circulated...out of respect for a serious matter that some have lost their lives over...and especially when some poor people in Egypt lost their source of income such as the individuals who had bird-shops! But soon enough, the whole Egyptian world was engulfed with bird flu joke fever and I found myself joining the flock (no pun intended). One of the latest jokes I received was a forward about how to prevent the bird flu virus...and when you opened it, you saw the picture of a bird wearing extra heavy clothes (scarf around the neck, socks, jacket, etc.) :)...

In psychology, a sense of humor is viewed by some as a defense mechanism...which answers your question in that our sense of humor as Egyptians ins't so much about having funny bones as much as it was the only outlet in the face of oppression and tyranny. There is a very good book that tackles this issue, especially around the time of gamal abdel nasser..where jokes started such as follows:

One doctor changed his speciality title to an ear and nose doctor (anf wa ozon)...instead of what it's known in Egypt as "anf wa ozon wa hangara" (ear, nose and throat)...because no one felt free to talk without fearing punishment by the government.....

As Al-Motanabi once said: w kam za bi masr men almod7akat..wa lakenaho de7k kalboka (There are many things in Egypt that invites laughter...but it is the type of laughter that makes you weep...)..

the Egyptian people are really clever people. and sometime i feel that many egyptians don't know how valuable they really are.

Egyptians get out of their fear or problems by using humorous. and you will find this very noticeable during a time of war.
