EGYPTIAN=DRAMA!!!!!

So i figured it would be interesting to see how many arabs out there think that their families, relatives, etc are overly dramatic in comparison to non-arab families . . . i have come to the conclusion arabs may in fact be the source from which soap operas were created!!! just a lil example, i'm in egypt and leaving to go back to cali tomorrow morning, and all my family wants me to stay, so they are all pleading with my dad, please let her stay just a while longer, and my dad says (to one of my aunts) "if you ask me one more time im gonna get up and stay in a hotel!!" so she replies, "ok, go stay in a hotel, just leave sarah here" . . . . and before you know it my dad is walking out the door!!!!! lol, DRAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so here i am sitting in egypt in the middle of a soap opera, wondering whether or not i get to stay, lol . . . so all ya'll arabs out there, gimme your stories so i dont feel like im the only one with a CRAZY ARAB family!!!! yalla ma3 salaama!!!!

Masrwaya, hehe, yes we are dramatic and i love it!! Omarf, LOL. Tatata, i dont think you have to have people in egypt to be able to visit there, it is still part of you, its your balad and nothing will ever change that, inshallah khair :) Mgaber, i know exactly what you are talking about, i had the same experience and it made me appreciate my family sooooooooo much, regardless of the drama there really is nothing like an arab family :D:D:D

Has anyone ever spent some time with a non-arab family, I mean actually living with them, it's truely an experience, one that made me appreciate what I have drama and all.

after my grand father pasway I used to visit my aunt and my uncle ,I used to see what you call it egyptian drama evry time I go there
they died 2 years ago and the rest of the family bussy with their life and their kids , ...I just vist them 2 or 3 hours ,
in the future my kids will no longer have any body to visit in egypt ......this is the real drama --

trust me egyptian drama that you have is better than american drama that I have now---
alhamdulillah we have every thing we need here in US but no thing like relatives

lol sara . when i was in Egypt. everytime i visit any of my uncles they have to invit me to eat. all i did in the vacation is eat and eat and eat. so i went to one of my uncle and i was really full and don't want to eat. but he invited me on the table and told me "i swear that you will eat this food". i said come on uncle! i really don't want to, "wallahi la entaa wakeel we ella haz3al menak"! please i will die if i eat anything. my uncle holding whole chicken and put it infront of me (he is watching me with his wide eyes). no where to run , i had to eat that whole chicken :( i was afraid he may say next "alaya el tala2 la entaa wakeel" .

There is only one thing to do when i read something like that...and that's laugh and say typical arabs...forget egyptian...it's evry single last arab out there ...the best is when they fight at the dinner table trying to fatten you up ..like your some kind of farm animal...like your not even sitting there...if i want to eat i'll eat

Yeah, I really do agree with you. I don't really have a story to share, but I can tell you that I don't get along with some family members because of this. It's like... get over it already! Anyways, yeah.. I do think that Arabic families tend to be overly dramatic. I'm not saying that that's necessarily bad, it amazingly does have some good aspects like in your case, hospitality, which many American families lack in the U.S.

Ummmm, I won't tell you the story of my aunt chasing my unlce with a knife (literally)...but, I remember the same thing happened to me, we were about to leave Egypt and come back to the USA, and my grandfather (Allah Yerhamu) didn't want me to leave, he was saying things like, all i wish is to have her with me, isn't enough my daughter lives on the other side of the world.....so i couldn't take it, so i get up to go to the bathroom (its the only room with some privacy in an Egyptian house) and start crying, later my bro comes sees me crying, he starts crying, then my mom sees us crying and she starts crying...then my grandfather walks in, and starts crying...lol...yeah, i would never trade those moments for all the gold in the world...
