lets talk about this: say that the scholars in islam regarded genetic engineering to be OK in the eyes of Allah. imagine. would you ever engage in baby-picking? how about if you could choose your babys sex, would you? how about if you could select-out a child with a propensity for cancer? handicap? what if you could choose your babys eye colour? skin colour? height? what if you and your spouse were shorties and the doctor said that the geneticist could make you a 'tall child'? would you go for it? knowing that the child you are 4 weeks pregnant with (or your wife is pregnant with) will develop a crippling disease and would be severely deformed, would you keep it? what would you do?

these are basically separate levels of 'genetic selection' queries so try to answer at any certain level that you feel comfortable with. are some cases OK? where is the line? remember, islam says you can...

discuss.

and in response to your questions, if i had reason to believe that my child would have a crippling disease that could be screen for (e.g. huntington's), i most definately would. I would not aim for a particular gender, height or skin color. and i would abort a fetus that would have a crippling disease, but that really depends on the disease and the expected quality of life.

what if? you can already pick the sex of your child and screen for certain diseases.
