get the red book ( gleim ). get one with cd you can study and practice exam right on your pc. i used gleim for private to atp, even for dispatcher.

I read Jeppesen Private Pilot Manual and FAA Private Pilot Practical Test booklet (Blue cover). That's all you need. Explain procedures to yourself as a CFI and you will see how much that makes a difference.
