Fair and Lovely

Is the "desi" ideal in terms of what is considered beautiful and most desirable when judging a woman's appearance still light skin colour, soft rounded features, and light eyes as opposed to medium to dark skin tone and sharp/strong features. Feedback from men and women is encouraged.

maybe we can get different tints...
or mood relative tones.
that would be cool. and would make social discourse all the easier.

"she says she's nothings bothering me, but she is become a deep Teal color, perhaps something is, in fact, bothering her.... "

ertw - i hope not! i like a nice deep brown skin. mmm. so do a lot of my white friends! grass is always greener... but brown/black skin ages better, is less likely to get skin cancer, blisters or sunburns, shows less imperfections, doesn't easily freckle, etc etc. plus it just looks so good... so smooth. *sigh*

Wildchild84, the old Hindi film actress, Madhubala, had the softest, roundest, bubbliest features I have ever seen in my life, and she was and still is considered to be one of the most beautiful women in all of Hindi cinema.
P.S. I do not think she was all that. No offense to any of you fans of hers.

In the future who knows maybe a form of gene therapy will be developed that will let someone lighten all of their skin...

I know about fair and lovley, they have it over at the spice shop/video piracy ring around the way. It actually disgusts me to a not insignificant degree. Its kind-of like ignorance bag/box (depending on which product).

In Pak/India there is this cream sold called "Fair and Lovely" basically a bleaching cream to make the skin appear lighter. I don't think it really works though.

Seeing a desi dhulan/bride means that you dont' really know what she looks like as the makeup consists of 3 pounds of white foundation.

Racism sucks, the "ideal" of the light skinned dulhan is at once bogus AND a call back to the bullsh*t caste system that Islam SHOULD have abolished centuries ago.

in response to the je i've noticed some desi's i meet on here have main pics that show their skin complexion to be much more lighter than pics that they keep in the 'only people i chose' hidden pics part of their photo album. i find that interesting. hope that answers your question.

My experience is desi aunty's prefer the sharper features with fair skin/hair/eyes. In north america the aunties like that look with tall height too-whereas height isn't an issue in India/Pak.

I was always considered fair, and it's usually the first thing people comment on regarding my looks. But that benefit was rather negated by my quiet bookish/nerdy personality as I was growing up. Even now I'm rather lower maintenance in my looks-less makeup, clothes shop every 6 months and tend to sometimes resemble the somewhat unkempt scholar. So I never developed any attitude problem as a result. :)

I did observe how my darker cousins were discriminated against and constantly told that they were ugly. I used to feel sorry for them as a result, and I have to admit that apart of me was glad I wasn't that dark.

Soft rounded features are not good in desi mentality at all...in many zaroorat e rishta ads, people brag about their daughter's sharp features and all the paki models like iman, amna haq, vaneeza, etc. have chiseled faces. Not good for me since I have a total babyface lol

Foxglove, that Ethiopian model is beautiful. Many women of other ethnicities, such as African, Mediterranean and sometimes Middle-Eastern are generally considered to be beautiful regardless of whether they have light skin or not. For example, one cannot argue that Greek and Italian women (Mediterranean) look great with tans. Most Assyrian, Armenian and Turkish people look nice when tanned also. Even Iranian people can get a nice tan and still look great. Latina women like to get tan and they look hot, like Jennifer Lopez. And there are many African-American or Afro-European models or actresses with darker skin that are considered beautiful, such as Naomi Campbell, and that Ethiopian model from the link that Foxglove provided. I wonder why it is only in the Desi culture that darker or tan skin is considered to be a "strike" against being beautiful/attractive? As a Desi woman who does not have fair skin, I have thought about this a lot?.
Sometimes I think that darker skin doesn't particularly suit the "typical" Desi features...but if a girl or guy often ?passes for? or gets mistaken for being Latino, Caucasian or Middle Eastern because of their features, but has darker skin, they can still "pass" for being very attractive. It is shallow and quite a pity, but I have noticed this.
