Aamir Khan and Yash Chopra - a powerhouse combination that comes together after 14 years (the duo last worked together in Parampara)
Aamir Khan and Kajol - undoubtedly two of the best performing talents of Bollywood coming together for the first time (the duo starred together in Ishq but were not romantically paired in the film)
And 'last' but not the least
Jatin and Lalit - (reportedly) composing together for the last time for this film
Now these are reasons enough to have elevated expectations from Fanaa; not to forget director Kunal Kohli who proved his sensitive treatment of subject with Hum Tum extracting fine performances from both Rani and Saif!

The one aspect of "Fanaa" I didn't think fit into the typical mold of being a Yash Chopra film is that it has a lot of dishum-dishum fight scenes in it. Y.C. should have stuck to his art of romance by leaving the physical fighting action out. It makes the film awkward...heavy romance on the one hand and heavy violence on the other. He manages to milk great performances from his actors/actresses though so I will give him credit for that.
When she makes the choice between the lesser of two evils (as the movie goes by killing him to save the life of million of people) and he makes the choice between the greater of two goods (by giving his life to his beloved, by effacing himself in her will instead of his ideal, by choosing heart over mind) this is a powerful moment that connects the movie from beginning to end.
I loved SubhanAllah as well, that song alone makes me cry for the beauty of its harmony. Having sung these words for many years in our Tarikat, this melody struck the heart deeply.
Kajol is great, when she shows her emotion walking away from her beloved on the train platform, her expression is transforming itself almost in slow motion, frame by frame, you feel her pain of separation. She has such mastery of her art as an actress.
The only reason I may not watch it again soon is because I like good ending Bollywood movies as well.
