Yeah, I think fat loss depends more on heart rate. You could be running 15 miles an hour, but if your heart rate is low, you still wont lose a ton of fat. On the eliptical I can get to about a target heart rate of 150-155 pretty easily on level 12, which is the same as I'd get running at about a 6.0 or 7.0 level and the calories expanded are the same. However, the added benefit of the eliptical is that you wont tear up your knees in the process, thus being able to run past colosus and other runners in 50 years when theyre on their second or thirf hip or knee replacements :P

Sonu,

As Colosus said its better not to take any weight loss pills. It is not healthy and can cause death as you already know.

But there are things out there that are really effective, without giving a person jitters. I used to wrestle, and had to loose weight sometimes in a short period of time.

I have taken Xenadrine, Hyrodycut with Ephedrine. Xenadrine was great.

But now there is a product out there called ALRI Venom Hyperdrive 3.0, it doesnt give me jitters, gives me energy, and suppresses my appetite. Someones I have to force myself to eat.

Again, I am not going to tell anybody to take anything, because of the risks involved. But I just am throwing out a suggestion.

Again do everything in moderation, and cardio and diet are the key.

Colosus, if you raise the resistance on the elliptical, go at a higher speed and maintain your target heart rate, couldnt you still get the same benefits as running at a pace which maintains the same heart rate?

kulsoom,

you are correct in that the elliptical machine provides a no-impact cario workout. however, it's probably about 1/3 as much exercise as running.

the elliptical machine is not as challenging but it does not impact your joints as much.

hey kooky2,

Honestly, the best cardio exercise hands down is running - so that should definitely be incorporated into your cardio routine. Every single exercise you may do becomes less effective over time as your body becomes more efficient at performing that movement - with the exception of running. But if you're going to run 5 times a week, i would definitely recommend running on a treadmill so you dont injure your knees over time.

In addition to the running, you could do either tiebo or spinning. Tiebo is probably better since it is more of a full body exercise. Another great cardo exercise in the gym is the stair master - but make sure you dont lean on the hand rails when using the machine.

Finally, do your cardo after doing weights. The first 30 minutes of high intensity exercise uses the glucose in your bloodstream. After it runs out of that, your body resorts to fat reserves.

Hope this helps.

People,

I would strongly discourage the taking of weight loss pills as the side effects are potentially harmful and not widely known. Yes, in the short term they may speed weight loss and provide a jolt of energy before a workout but in the long term a regular routine of rigorous exercise combined with a strict healthy and balanced diet is the way to permanent results.

All forms of ephedrine (even those that that claim to be ephedrine free contain a derivative of the same ingredient - just one that has not yet been banned by the FDA) are essentially a form of "speed". And the effects of taking any narcotic are evident long after the user has stopped taking the drug.

If you're serious about getting lean - follow this regiment: 45 minutes high intensity cardio + 45 minutes weights per day, 5 times a week combined with South Beach diet. Follow that routine and within 4 months, you'll have a completely new body.

Thats my 2 cents.
