Father Figure in Marriage

I'm not sure about the ins and outs of an islamic marriage but I was told that I would need a father figure to do my vows for me. Is this correct? Can anyone enligten me?

I have lost my father 2 years ago and all my next relatives are all back in Desh...

thank u all for your kind words.. yes thats what i'm thinking about wakeel.

i dont think i have someone who can be a wakeel especially in spain.

also i may only be taking my younger sisters husband with me - he can suffice as a witness i guess?

can females not witness it?

CHOTI all you need is what is referred to as a 'wakeel' a guardian....someone to 'give you away'....this person usually is a male blood relative....but from what i've gathered he doesn't have to be a blood relative....just someone who you deem as being you're guardian.

You'll also need 2 male witnesses....they can be anyone you want them to be...although im not sure if they have to be of the muslim faith.

When i got married my bro did my nikaa and my mum's brother and my mums sister's husband were my two male witnesses.

You need one wekeel and 2 witnesses. Wakeel should be from your side, the one who take your responsibility as a father figure. Witnesses can be any two adult males.
