Favourite Fairy Tale...

As a kid, I used to love reading fairy tales from the ladybird series to Grimms Bros and Hans Andersen series...

I cant wait to be able to read these stories to my kids -IA...

Anyway, what is your favourite tale and why?

I've always loved Cinderella - purely because she gets to be with her Prince Charming and live happily ever after. I love the pumpkin carriage and the beautiful gown she wears to the ball. I also have small enough feet to fit the glass slipper ;-)

Nope, Choti, it's true. In the original pre-Grimm Brothers story of Snow White too, it's not an evil stepmother who tries to kill snow white but her own mother, the Queen! Who eventually succeeds in killing her! The Queen then gets killed by her husband, the King, in return. The original fairy tales were written for a far tougher generation than us!

I like the original versions before the Victorians sterilised them and removed all the sex and violence. For example, in the originla story of Sleeping Beauty, the prince's kiss doesn't wake her. Nor does she wake when he climbs on top of her and has his way. She gets pregnant from this and still doesn't wake up. She gives birth to twins and it's only when the climb up her belly to suckle that she wakes up and the curse if lifted. S'true - google it!

my favorite tale was alison in wonderland. the imagery of the mad hatter and the tea party is still vivid in my mind.

The very hungry caterpillar is still one of my favourites today and I love to watch the faces of children light up when I read it to them at storytime... The pictures are very bold and beautiful. Each Peach Pear Plum makes me hungry...

I took the ignorance away, not the innocence. You're still innocent (and now a little bit the wiser), Choti.

Choti, Snow White was a fairy tale?!?! That is the sickest movie I've ever seen. A bunch of dirty old men find a young girl unconscious in the woods? Do they get her medical attention? Do they call the police? Do they tell the Missing Person's Bureau? No, those sick perverts take her home where she becomes their domestic slave, tending to their every need. Then 'some how', she gets poisoned and they blame it on a jealous Queen with a talking mirror (yeah right). If this was not all bad enough, they let a total stranger come and molest her... and somehow she recovers from the poison. So now she has to spend the rest of her life with her latest abuser and we are told that she's going to live happily ever after? That is just plain wrong.
