Finding a place to live in Central

salaams all,

I'm moving to London this fall insha'allah to study for a couple of years at London Business School. Life in a big city isn't that new for me (I grew up in NYC) but life in London will certainly be a new experience. So will returning to a student budget.

Anyone have any tips for finding a place to live? The school is on the edge of Regent's Park and is a couple of blocks away from the Central Mosque. I'd like to live as close enough to the school and in Zone 1 if possible.

Ideas, anyone?

half a mil? that's not so bad. i grew up with these over-inflated prices. it's the same in nyc (manhattan) and bay area (atherton, woodside and los altos hills are three of the top five most expensive neighborhoods in the states). seattle ain't cheap either. i guess i could say i'm used to it. i was thinking of clerkenwell. thoughts?

there isn't anything under half a million in london hussein! i think you could just get one bus from camden to your business school. you'll find many people here who live in london, dont actually live in central and even if they do, they are usually renting.. unless they are mega rich!

Bus rides are fine if it's a straight shot (ie, no switches) and no more than 15 mins. I was considering renting, but I suppose I could try to buy my own place. Doubtful though. No credit history in the UK.

camden isn't walking distance.. prob a bus ride but still zone 2. if you're renting, it maybe cheaper to go for a house-share with other students. guess it depends on your budget

Are you looking to buy or rent? Buying in zones 1-3 is becoming virtually impossible and loft conversions are the worst offenders!

Are lofts ridiculously expensive in London? That's what I'd prefer to find. I don't want to be too far away from the school - is Camden close enough to Regent's Park?

hmmm not sure... zone 1 is generally quite expensive but you'll save on the travel costs. u could camden which is in zone 2 but still pretty pricy..
