The International Medical & Educational Trust (IMET) which has been involved since 1994 in a variety of humanitarian endeavors mainly focused on helping children who are victims of wars and natural disasters. IMET is a non-profit 501(c)-3 organization; so all donations to them are tax-deductible.
IMET has established a project for the survivors of the 2005 earthquake in Northern Pakistan. The project is titled the "Village of HOPE". This project is consists of 1,000 Orphaned children housed in prefab shelters and a psychosocial program has been implemented to improve the mental health of these children. The program includes training the schoolteachers as "Therapists" to provide psychological intervention to the children. Research has shown that children who experience trauma and loss of loved ones, if not offered immediate psychological help, stand a serious risk of becoming chronically emotionally disabled. The progress of the children is monitored regularly by the local teams and every three months by the IMET trauma team. The Village includes a primary school and a hospital (with counseling center). The location of the "Village of HOPE" is in the Village Bakrial between Mansehra and Balakot, the hardest hit community in Northern Pakistan.
Considering the enormity of the tragedy at hand our efforts are a drop in the bucket, but we know for sure that every effort no matter how small it may be, helps. IMET is committed to the children of the "Village of HOPE" for at least the next five years.
In order to support IMET's ongoing charitable activities, we are holding a banquet, which will serve as the fundraiser enabling the IMET Trauma Team to continue our work. Please consider making a donation and join us for what is sure to be a wonderful evening. No donation is too small, for every little bit helps.
