For "The Kite Runner" fans

Fairfax County has invited author Khaled Hoseini to discuss his amazing bestselling book, "The Kite Runner". Definitely a great event for anyone who enjoyed the book or wants to read it.

"Set in Afghanistan and America, The Kite Runner is a story about the friendship between a wealthy Afghan youth and his servant?s son. The novel is an exquisitely told story of betrayal, redemption and a father-son relationship that offers insight into the culture of Afghanistan and the experience of some Afghan-Americans.

Author Khaled Hosseini was scheduled to appear live on September 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center to discuss his book, The Kite Runner. Due to an unprecedented response, we have moved this event to the Center for the Arts Concert Hall on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University. Seating will now be on a first come, first served basis; no registration or tickets will be required. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. As we get closer to the event, please check back here for updates on where to park."

I agree but what candle left out was that the audience was entirely people by older white ladies..... I think the secular political persuasions and overly pro-US stance of the author may have alienated some of our Afghan brothers and sisters. I think I will write my review of the book in another thread - i guess in the Books village. On another note, I believe Candle is a member of some white supremacist group....

It was an interesting program. The author was very funny and it was nice to hear his background and how the story came about. It was a very short program. He spoke for about an hour and then answered 5 questions. Great turnout though, the place was packed.

An update for those who are going..

"Parking is available for a $5.00 charge in the parking deck adjacent to the Concert Hall or free in lots J and K.

Due to the large audience size, Dr. Hosseini will not be able to sign books for all. A limited number of books, with signed book plates, will be available for purchase the evening of the program, with a limit of two books per person.

In addition, 200 audience members will be randomly selected to have the opportunity to have two copies of The Kite Runner signed by Dr. Hosseini. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause, but we are anticipating 5 times the original number of attendees, and felt this was the fairest solution given Dr. Hosseini?s schedule. Thank you for your interest in this event."

You can take a shuttle straight to Mason from the vienna metro station (end of orange line). Take the CUE Bus (any of the routes stop at GMU). The fare is $.25 with a Mason ID and $.50 per person otherwise.

Well they moved this to the Center for the Arts Concert Hall on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University - which is a decent sized place. Hopefully there will be spots for all interested although getting their early is probably a real good idea. I am really digging this book. The person who recommended it to me along with the person who told me about the author coming is not nearly as dumb as they look?. You know who you are!!!! :P

No problem. FYI, apparently about 1800 people tried to reserve spots the first time around so definitely show up early if you want a seat.
