Garden of Bliss
Do you think that you shall enter the Garden of Bliss without such trials as came to those who passed before you?

do we learn from the ones before us? do you think we really take comfort and share the pain in the ways our ancestors did not?
why does history repeat and none of us take heed in what the truth is?
how can we expect to better ourselves if we dont learn from the past.

and now that we know our prob, we should try our best to fix it .... remember Allah helps those who help themselves. Reminds of a hadith that I had read, goes something like this:
A bedouin came to pray in the mosque and asked Prophet (S.A.W) if he could leave his horse untied under the protection of Allah. Prophet (S.A.W) replied that Allah is definitely ever-watching, but we must do our own bit and asked him to tie his horse securely.
miss afreen, that is true. We as muslims should live a life of happiness on this earth and aim to be in a life of happiness after death too. Both are very important and must not be compromised.
death can teach us so much if only we except there is an afterlife. Most of us young muslims have a half faith, we dont really leave things to Allah, and act as if we can fix everything, ...
but may Allah forgive me if i did something wrong or imply something incorrect and unjust.
but then that's one of the wonders of life, coz if we kept on thinking about dying ..we wouldn't be able to live.
We can't change history, but inshaAllah mould a better future for ourselves, based on knowledge,past experiences , patience and prayer.
It doesnt matter whether someone is rich or poor, short or tall, has vision or is blind - for the trials we all face whilst uniqe and individual are designed for us in our specific circumstances.
But we should remember when Allah Almighty says that no person will be tested with a trial greater than that which they can bear. Which leads us to the verse you have cited that each and every one of us will face some sort of trial/ tests in life which determine the way in which we enter paradise - and Allah Almighty knows best about such things; suffice to say that we should always strive to do good, ameen!
P.S. Being happy doesnt mean you live in denial. Happiness is something everyone is entitled to, irrespective of the trial they suffer. A person with vision when they see a person without vision shouldn't feel pity , rather if anything even a little jealousy for the Prophet said that Allah has reserved something special for the person who does not have vision in this life, in paradise!
Either way may Allah Almighty bless us all with good health, and good vision, ameen!
but cant we do anything to alleviate the pain of others if not of ourselves.

I guess im being naive by thinking this era, this generation, this century of humans are any different from the past ones.
Allah has every right to judge and punish us, we are a shame on shame. Collectively too if not individually, so much to think and act on.
Arrogance - its like looking into the sun and denying you see any light.

this is where western discourse of education and human development differs from easter.
we involve ourselves with life, past and future. we have a link, we get passionate about the past. we blame and we glorify, accordingly.
this secular world of today is so bound by limits it has no control over that it is bound to fall and falter on itself.
And when things go completely awry, we feel as if we have no recourse b/c we never were powerful enough to make those decisions to begin with...
but the education we recieved in schools, of history too was shown as a fictious past that CAN never be repeated. and thence the generations are raised and repeat the same mistakes. history should be shown as present and a reality.
the most saddening part is the message of the Qu'ran goes unnoticed and no one takes heed in its message.
it continously talks about our forefathers, their mistakes, their ignorances and their faults! yet we are doing the same as them. Why o why does mankind not see.
