Gaudi takes my breath away

I went to Barcelona a couple of years back and was just taken aback by Gaudi's magnificent scale and awe-inspiring work that is to be found adorning the city.

I've never seen so much attention to detail, he was a visionary, making buildings that look as if they are straight out of tales by the brother's Grimm!

The illustrated picture shows the roofscape of Casa Mila where chimneys are fashioned like strange faces so that the smoke appears to come out of the eyes and noses! In the apartments at Casa Mila he designed everything from the doorknobs to the peepholes, the bathrooms to the lightfittings. He was a lover of curvature and colour. He has left a legacy of some truly remarkable work!

There is so much to see around the city, Casa Mila, Casa Batillo, Parc Guell, Sagrada Familia, Casa Museu and the list goes on!

I never made it to the Monastery although I'd have loved to have gone there! I sometimes like to leave some things for next time! I had a wonderful time going to the buildings, parks, cathedrals and museums and sitting in the squares and walking on the beach etc... Also went to some nice bars/restaurants and hooked up with my friend who was living there at the time and met her friends etc... so there was plenty to do in the days and the evenings! Did you get a cable car up to the mountains? I hear you can do that?!

Hey Hanid,
hehe, yes I stand corrected (A) Yes, there is a large mosaic lizard creature in the central reserve of the double staircase at Parc Guell. There are also some 'Medallions' containing mosaic reptile heads further down. I think it's the place where everyone just has to have a photo opportunity! I've got pics there too! :)
