GAY MUSLIMS

I have been commissioned to write an article about gay Muslims. What are people's thoughts on this subject? Is a "gay identity" compatible with a Muslim/Islamic identity? Or are they diametrically opposed? Is it possible to be wholly Muslim as well as gay/lesbian/bisexual? In fact, are there any gay or lesbian Muslim naseebers who would not mind being interviewed? What's it like growing up gay and Muslim? What problems have you faced? Please feel free to message me privately. Your privacy will be assured.

thanks Aftab!

i am in contact with imaan. i agree with what you say. but i dont think it happens so late in life surely. perhaps it is only at that age that we are able to conceptualise and label what we feel.

i think perhaps human beings are born in the middle, they have the ability to go one or the other way. it is for our choices that we are held to account.

EK. your friend's dilemma sounds serious. there is the Muslim Youth Helpline that can help. apparently 25% of their calls deal with sexuality issues. quite amazing then that the mainstream community hasnt taken the issue head-on. try www muslimyouth dot net

i think if ur gay you have a choice, u can be gay and not act on you feelings (love and/or sex) and it is a test from allah, or sin and indulce in a relationship. Allah (swt) will reward you for abstinence. Having homosual feelings could be intepreted as shaitan tempting men/woman from the right path, away from islam. Saying that I appreciate that its hard, much harder than if your hetrosexual, 1) cos of the cultural taboo attached, as well as socila acceptance, we all want to be liked/loved by those around us and 2) you can't help it if you have feelings for someone, its not always a choice. You can hide them but then your not being tru to urself and i really believe it will remain latent in your subconcious and manifest causing problems later on. I actually have a friend (i'll try get him to contact u enigma) he knows he is gay, has always know, but refuses to deal with that side of him, because he doesnt want to be gay, he genuinely wants to be a good muslim, he goes to prayers, does his best to be a good person but he is never content, never happy. as a result he is seriously depressed. his family pressure him to marry and really want grandkids, but what is he to do. He is repelled at the thought of marrying a woman, so he has decided to live a celebate life. he avoids men and has lots of female friends, but I know he is deeply unhappy. When i see his misery I really feel for him. and wonder is it worth it? I sincerely hope that he is rewarded generously in the next life because he suffers a great deal.

putting religion to one side,,,,,,,, as humans we are curious on how gay ppl are,,,,,,,,,, but i can't find any excitement for two women being together unless they are comparing booob sizes and body hair colour!!!
