I have no problems with gays or lesbians. Some of my closest friends are gay men or women. It's not my place to have problems with anyone or judge them. I make friends with PEOPLE; not races or genders or sexualities. I don't make friends with people who are closed-minded or judgmental. Full stop.

Islamic law isn't as arbitrary as you make it out to be. When you say "we" can kill gays, you should also understand that the legal requirement for a case of this magnitude to be tried in a sharia court is a minimum of four reputable people who actually witnessed the act of sodomy. That is to say, they saw two men having penetrative sex.
Islam draws a clear distinction between the public and the personal. It has never interfered with the latter, especially when it does not openly threaten social stability.
Also, if you look into Islamic history you will find that men who were openly gay attained high office in the courts of kings. Abu Nuwas, a famous poet and politician, was an office bearer in the court of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid. He was a famous homosexual and alcoholic. His poems about pretty boys are known as the ghulamiyyat ("boy songs"). Even a casual look at Ibn Hazm's treatise on love ("The Dove's Neck-Ring") will reveal a tolerant attitude to sexual identity in the courts of the Islamic kings of Spain.
I think a lot of our own intolerances are the leftovers of European colonialism. Victorian sexual repression is very well-known.
