Gerrard set to quit Anfield???

Chelsea have made a British record ?32m bid for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, say newspaper reports.

The offer would eclipse the ?29.1m Manchester United paid to Leeds for Rio Ferdinand in 2002.

Liverpool are reported to have responded by offering the midfielder a two-year contract extension to 2009 on ?100,000 a week.

Is Stevie going to bolt?

Tottenham are interesting. Seems like they've signed every up and coming English player under 24. Be nice if they could do well and challenge with a young squad like Leeds did a few years back.

StevieG stayin' in Liverpool makes the Premiership all the more exciting! The march to the crown will be hotly contested between Chelski, Arsenal, ManU, and now Liverpool! Of-course there can be 1-2 other clubs that can overachieve and make things interesting at the top (ie. Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham, etc).

Speaking of Chelsea, am I the only one who's about to cry because Crespo's going back? I wanted him to stay in Milan. He's the Morientes of this season. And can anyone please explain to me why he wasn't played in the Confederations Cup final????

he should go to chelsea so that he messes up their team. him and lampard always play badly together for england so chelsea will become rubbish.

Turns out he's staying after all. Must've been the Judas banner hanging outside the training ground when he drove by that changed his mind...or common sense but I'm betting it was the banner.

he'd be lying thru his arse if he says its not about the money. he will probably say its because liverpool didn't act fast enough and didn't give him priority blah blah. unloyal bugger he is!

100,000 a week and he turned it down! He could've been an icon at the club but now he's just a cash whore. Wonder if he'll say it wasn't about the money when he does move to Chelsea.

Stevie G is leaving... SOB wants more money! I hope he ends up in Madrid and not Chelsea.

WTF, I can't believe he and the club couldn't resolve their issues. Here's another great player who came up thru the youth program wanting to leave.

he's holding out for more money. If Liverpool cant pay him what he wants he'll go to Real Madrid or Chelsea.

If he does stay, and then says he stayed because of the fans then he is talking bollocks. He's after higher wages.

I hope not! If Chelsea doesn't quit their spending spree, they're gonna end up like Madrid: a bunch of big names that can't play together!
