Girlie Sportscar
Wat wud be considered girlie sassy sportscar that i can drive?
LOL ITMX, F& F turned me off Eclipses with a quickness...... performance wasn't an issue just that god awful color!!! No worries if you don't dig the looks of an S2K, I like the way it has this sort of subtle aggression to it - in aesthetics and performance. But somehow you have managed to give your personal opinion on several cars, even mention the ones you don't like, and not sound like a total jerk!!! AMAZING!!!!! Quite refreshing even though the "that car sucks cuz i said so" argument never loses its luster....
Did they stop making the turbo versions of the MR2's? Those used to be pretty sweet. Either way, a mid-engined, RWD car that size must be a lot of fun at the track. MR2's always give me the thumbs up when I am in my X cuz of the whole Mid-Engine kinship. The new ones aren't my cup of tea, I thought the older one's were a lot better looking. Plus that 2 liter turbo had a nice feel to it.
I'd have to agree on the not liking of the convertible theory for guys. A) They handle worse and are much heavier cuz of structural reinforments, B) It just don't feel good if you're doin 90 down the freeway. Targa - thats the compromise for me!!
Oh, I'd drive just about all of them Apakhalla! If you noticed, most of the girlie-cars are generaly roadsters/convertables! That's a trend more common in gals than in guys. I personally don't like convertables (just a personal preference).
The Acura RSX has one of the most amazing gearbox/shifting of any car around! The Audi TT's interior and materials are in a league of their own! Styling of the Toyota Celica was emulated by the Lamborghinia Gallardo, costing $150k more! The Toyota MRS is a mini-exotic, it is mid-engined rear-wheel drive, drop-top 2seater!
We're just speaking of trends here, not of accepted norm's.
Examples:
- Majority of conv. BMW's are bought/driven by females
- Most common class of sportscars bought by women are "compact import entry-level sports coupes/conv's".
- Looks/style of newer models matter more than performance and technology to women buyers/drivers.
so Inthamix question - so does that mean you wouldn't drive any of the cars on the list? Frankly speaking personally I don't think cars are girlie vs non-girlie, everyone's got their own taste. I don't think it would matter if I saw a guy driving down the street with a Toyota Celica...
Thank god you spoke ITMX!!!! You're one of the few peeps I have heard speak in this village who's opinion I always respect because it comes from someone who has a real passion for all things automotive. And its not cuz we agree on everything cuz I think the S2K sho is purty....... (and no I don't own one)
To anyone else who thought I was offended, I just love cars, period. Felt like one particular car I love was being picked on - hell call it chivalry since yall think its so girlie. :)
I personally don't like the looks of the S2K either... but to call it a "POS" is ignorant and speaks volumes of the credibility of the person as an enthusiasist. Saying likewise for the NSX shows how incredibly simple-minded one is when it comes automotive prowess, and fundamentals of motoring. Marketing/ media/ magazines/ manufacturer's spin creates fervor w/ the masses in order to move cars and justify newer models, and redesigns. Basically, people are herded like sheep... sad to say.
Anyways, if I wanted the most gratifying driving experience for under $30k w/ the ability to modify/ tune/ personalize my car in the future and have reliability, resale-value: the S2K is the only choice, period. But I'm more into aesthetics, ergonomics, luxury/comfort, etc... so it doesn't appeal to me.
Anywayz... Quality, contemporary girlie cars that are sporty would include:
* Mini Cooper
* BMW 3-series conv.
* BMw Z3/Z4
* VW Beetle
* Audi TT
* Mercedes SLK
* Mercedes Benz C-class coupe (hatch)
* Mitsubishi Eclipse
* Toyota MRS {My personal fav.!}
* Toyota Celica
* Toyota Camry Solara conv.
* Honda Civic Coupe
* Acura RSX
I have to quote starry on this one, she nailed it when she said "..dont think cars should be gender-specific. I mean these are cars, not restrooms!" After pondering, I can't think of one car, sportscar or otherwise, that are primarily driven by one sex or the other. All I can say about any car is drive it like you stole it!
hmmm... Interesting views people have, I'll leave it at that! No mojo' left to argue/dissuade others w/ their personal opinions, sigh.
As far as a "girlie sassy sportscar", current & recent models that come to mind are:
- Toyota MRS/MR2 (Which I happen to like alot... compact and gives total feedback. A very fun sportscar!)
- BMW Z3/4 (I'm not all that keen on due to it's performance. Z4 got more suave/streamlined, but didn't really develop a following as of yet. Maybe the Coupe version will offer more sportiness. Nice weekend roadsters w/ airy, sportscoupe feel!)
- Mitsubishi Eclipse (Past-present-future models all have been a hit w/ women car enthusiasists; lots of options/gadgets. Racy-sportscoupe depending on model type!)
- Nissan 350Z (I see alot more women driving them then men! Goodlooking car, but more of a sportscoupe than a sportscar in it's present offering)
- Infiniti G35 Coupe (I see equal distribution of men/women in these; nice interior and overall fit-finish is excellent! Not a sportscar, more of a GT-coupe)
- Mazda RX8 (I see equal men:women driving these, but it'd be flattering to see a woman appreciating a rotary! A good sportscar!)
- Acura RSX/Integra (Usually the boy-racer types tune/mod' these, but many gals tend to have them as well. Nice sportscoupe!)
- Honda S2000 (High-tech' street-racer in the right hands, I've mostly seen guys w/ it... interior is bare and it's mostly for enthusiasists. A very capable sportscar in the right hands!)
- Mercedes SLK (I never got any feeling from them, but a refined roadster; due to lack of track prowess, meaning more civility- many women have them. A roadster bordering on a sportscoupe!)
- Mazda Miata (I just can't dig 'em, then again I'm not a conv. guy. Ironically, mostly men own them due to their tight-gripping & cornering abilities, as well as trackibility. Definite sportscar, fun at all speeds!)
- Lotus Elise (On the outside may seem to be a girl's ride, but on the inside it's raw... minimalist of sorts, too harsh/utilitarian for most women. Hardcore sportscar, period!)
- BMW 3-series Conv. (More often than not, a women's "must-have" if she's career oriented and into the scene! Nice handling sportscoupe/conv.!)
- Porsche Boxster (I like these, it's alot of car for the money... can be easily individualized w/ options/choices; I see usually more gals in them then men, per'se. An adequate sportscar for most needs!)
- Audi TT (I really like Audi interiors, choice of materials, and general designs... but the TT seems to be a better fit for the femmes w/ it's artsy nuova shape. A sophisticated, unique sportscoupe!)
- Chevrolet Corvette (Generally marketed for the musle-car enthusiasist, a reasonable amount of women do get them, albeit in the auto. motif!?! A total sportscar.)
- Lexus SC430 Coupe (Unique look to it, extremely well-made; but proportions/styling are more on par for women. Extremely tight fit. A high-end roadster w/ GT-coupe vibe.)
Other girlie cars I've encountered:
- Chrysler LeBaron/Sebring Conv.
- Honda Civic Del Sol
- Ford Mustang Conv.
- Mini Cooper
- VW Beetle
- VW Golf Cabrio.
- Porsche 911 Cabrio.
- Nissan 240SX
My bests' advise is for those people to actually drive/experience a certain car before they draw any inferences or conclusions, thereby basing an opinion solely on perceptions, magazine/press reviews, word of mouth, and preconceived thoughts.
Thanks Starry, glad someone else is an actual enthusiast in this village.
Afgpartychic, people who actually race and work on cars would never have such baseless, inarticulate, and circular arguments.
"I am not riled up ... if you can't debate with someone over cars than you should take a step out.
I don't know - I just don't understand most of you in this car village" That seems a little riled up either that or you are just naturally abrasive. Perhaps you don't understand people in this village because its title is CAR_LOVERS.
You said the S2K is not a real sports car but you never used actual racing metrics such as the slalom, gear ratios, compression ratios,qtr mile. It falls short in areas like quarter mile - low-end power - but its not a drag car. Street/drag races and racing at the track are two completely different things, not every car is a drag car. My guess is you have no track time, and no time under the proverbial hood of a car(based on the doltish posts you have already made). Making blanket statements that there are no 4-cylinder sport cars, that hondas are POS's, and VTEC is crap. Why don't you explain what VTEC does that makes it crappy?
You would like to debate, I asked a few valid questions which you avoided:
1) Name another NA 4-cyl car that produces that much horsepower. You repeatedly compared it to turbo'd cars while the S2K is na. Not really a fair comparison.
2) What kind of car do you drive? Your answer will be taken with a grain of salt since you have already "joked" about your "husbands 2 S2000's".
3) When classifying a car as a sports car, do you consider gas mileage a viable metric?
4) Arent there a lot of V6 sports cars that the S2K out performs?
Most of your comments made no sense whatsoever. You gave a completely inaccurate description of VTEC (it doesn't burn out engines...). I mentioned random car redlines because you just as randomly chose that metric to prove that the S2K does not meet some vague definition created by you of what a sports car is. "If you wanted to compare the S2000 I would put it up against other 4 cylinder sports cars - such as the Lancer Evo... I don't know where the S2000 would fit but it definitely is not a sports car."
"are you insane - you think a 4 cylinder vehicle should even be considered a sports car?"
So you would not consider the S2000 a sports car, but you would compare it to other 4-cyl sports cars that apparently didn't exist in some of your posts except when it suited you're convenience? Are you sure I am the one who "doesn't undertand"? I guess those guys at car and driver and JDPowers and Road and Track are completely clueless - categorizing this car as a sports car/roadster that has been highly rated since its first year in production. Forgive me for being rude but you insisted on a response by your statements and tone. I am still waiting for the debate you mentioned.... meaning you back up your statements with something besides your opinion or incorrect statements or "jokes". This is after all a car forum and we are talking cars right?
i asked my friend the same question today (yup naseeb is a big part of my life) and he goes "the only way i would think a guy was gay is if he was driving a mini cooper or a bug." Everyone has different perceptions of what's gay or girly, even when it comes to cars i guess.
Afgpartychic.... you said s2000 was a girly car.... your hubby drives 2.... I have an important question for you... Dont take any offense to it, but is your husband girly?
lol Wasif I don't think you understand - it is all imperative and it does not need to be a 500k vehicle to be considered a sports car, from someone who has had engine work done, modified and raced Honda's for the most part of my driving life I am only stating facts. I am not riled up - this is just car talk, if you can't debate with someone over cars than you should take a step out. The car reaches its peak HP at that red line - hmm so let me get this straight and please let me know if I am wrong. As far as I understood if your car could produce X amount of HP and the RPM's are low you have a stronger not to mention bigger engine - if the S2000 is reaching its full max HP at 7800 RPM that means it has to work harder, more engine stress, even more fuel usage (hence a smaller engine) - so it is better that the car reach more HP at a higher RPM? Sorry that is how it is coming out from you - if you can get your car to go 70 MPH at 2200 RPM you are in bliss -
I don't know - I just don't understand most of you in this car village
and the s2000 is not a sports car, you can ask my husband - he has 2.

the s2000 is still a girly sports car
=0
I think if a car is painted Pink/Purple they are girly doesn?t matter if it is FORD Excursion or Hummer.
AS for HONDA 2000 they look like aerodynamic shoe box.
:-)
i am gonna get it now
