Guantanamo Detainees Hunger Strike
Detainees in the Guantanamo Concentration Camp are on a hunger strike. They would rather kill themselves than be humiliated, tortured, and beaten by US soldiers. This is a good article- villagevoice.com
here are some quotes from the detainees in Guantanamo
"I am in constant pain. I would prefer to be buried alive than continue to receive the treatment I receive. At least I would suffer less and die."
(Sami Al-Laithi, Egyptian detained in Guantanamo)
"Almost every day, Fox used to take a brand new Koran, and tear off the plastic cover in front of us and then throw it away into the trash container."
(Ahmad Naji Abid Ali Dulaymi, ex-Abu Ghraib detainee)
"If torture and abuse had a smell, none of the American soldiers would be able to sit next to anyone else."(Omar Deghayes, British resident detained in Guantanamo)
"We have nothing here, no rights, no trials, nothing."
(Abdel Malik Abdel Wahab, Guantanamo detainee)
"No one should be treated in the way they are treated in Cuba. The Americans, how they are treating people, they are terrorists. They have no humanity."
(Mamdouh Habib, former Guantanamo detainee)

Good article. I have started a web site with two other people -- one Houston and one in London-- intended to get people involved in human rights activism at the grassroots level. The web site grew out of our collaboration on a letter writing campaign to legislators to enable an independent investigative team to go to Guantanamo. I literally went through hundreds of pages of articles and tribunal testimonials and was revolted by the end of it. In any case, we have all been applying pressure on our Congressmen about this, and while the outcome is not easily measurable, Ted Kennedy, to whom many of our letters were addressed, has been one of the most outspoken on this issue. Kerry, not so much, so we are re-sending letters to him. You can cut and paste all or part of the letter by going to forum.kaash.org and clicking "Campaigns" and it will say "Letter to John Kerry" and give you the address. There have been so many multiple suicide attempts, including by men later found to be completely innocent. ANYHOO, thought I's share...
