Hadith-e-Kisa

The Hadith of cloak or Event of the Cloak which is referred to in Arabic as Hadith-e-Kisa (Kisa-arabic for Cloak).

This is a very important Hadith for the Shia, along with few more hadith and Verses in the Quran, as the foundation for their claim that Governorship of Muslims should be only in the posterity of Muhammad as the base for advanced claims that some decendents of the Prophet are infaliable.

According to the Sunni Hadith Collections, it is narrated that an Arab Christian envoy from Jizan (currently in North of Yemen and partly in Saudi arabia ) came to the Prophet to argue to which is the true religion. The prophet offered to do the Arabic Tradition known to those Arab christians as Mubahala, that is that each conflicting parties should cover themselves with a cover and together all parties ask God sincerely to destroy and inflict with curses and diseases on the liar party and even their families. The Prophet, to prove to them he is a prophet, gladly brought his family, his daughter Fatima and his surviving grand children Hasan and Husein, and came back to the christians and said this is my family (Ahl) and covered himself and family with a cloak, and started the tradition of Mubahala. On the Other hand the Shia claim that this authentic hadith proves with no doubt who are Ahl Al-Bait ( Arabic for Household not for Family or posterity) mentioned in a verse in the Quran ( Sunni despute that this verse was about Muhamamd wives and their children and even their servants( Household)), as follows:

Shia View:

The Shia celebrate this event as Eid-e Mubahala.

This hadith provides the basis and back ground roots for the Aya-e-Tatheer 33:33 Al Ahzaab wherby Allah, the God explicitly identified who are the AHL-E-BAIT (people of the house of Muhammad). The tradition about this hadith goes from different sources to Fatimah bint-e- Muhammad, the daughter of Muhammad. She narrated that once her father visited her home, he had fever and was not feeling well, he asked for a Yemeni cloak which Fatimah brought to him and folded it around him. Later he was joined in that Yemani cloak by his grandsons Hasan and Hussain, who were followed by their father Ali, who was cousin and son in law of Muhammad. Finally Fatimah, his daughter asked the permission to enter that cloak. When all five of them joined togather under the cloak, Muhammad narrated to all under the cloak that all five of them are chosen ones he further stated that he wants from Allah to keep all impurities out of reach and away from all of us. Muhammad then prayed to God askig Allah to declare all five of them as his Ahl-e-Bait and keep away the Nijasat or the impurities Allah at that request immediately sent Gabriel to reveal to Muhammad that all the five under the cloak are dearest and closest to Allah and they are Taher (purest of the pure) without any traces of impurities.
