Have you read...
White Oleadner by Janet Fitch.
I read this book in high school and then picked it up as an afterthought just last month again. I am definitely not a re-reader, but as soon as I skimmed through the first page of this book by accident, I was bewitched again. Fitch's writing is like silk; her ability to paint pictures and to make analogies is incomparable to anyone I've read before. "White Oleander" is the story of a young girl as she moves from foster home to foster home after her mother is jailed for murder. It is set in California.
The following is just an example of the writing:
"September came with its skirts of fire. Fire up the Angeles Crest. Fire in Malibu, Altadena. Fire all along the San Gabriels, in the San Gorgonio wilderness, fire was a flaming hoop the city would have to jump through to reach the blues of October."
Pick it up and let me know what you think!? OR if you've read it - what did you think?
