Oh.. I watched my saturday morning and afterschool cartoons all the time! I loved my voltron, thundercats, he-man, and transformers. I also knew what I wanted to be so I made sure I went for it :). I just always had a love affair with the sciences. Call me weird or a nerd I don't mind :D

Well Newcairo.. I don't "work" so to speak in the sense you are thinking. I would never be able to. Medschool is a fulltime job literally... but as part of my schooling I have to work in hospitals.. I have to do clinical rotations. And since in NY a good majority of the hospitals are soooo busy.. us medical students end up doing a lot of the work as well. We don't just sit down and watch. They can tell us to do just about anything, even assist in surgeries and we have to be ready and prepared to do that. Sometimes the residents don't even bother to show up and we get stuck with their work and their patients. However, I don't get paid for what i do. Not yet anyway.. that will be when i get my residency insha'allah haha and even then the most i can get is $35,000 (the most) without taxes. And yeah the debt i have from loans is insane.. by the time i graduate I will have nearly $200,000 dollars to pay off.. so guess where my money will go once i start working *: haga ti2rif yakhuya. Il 7aya sa3b and you have to give yourself every opportunity to be able to live. That's why getting yourself an education is so important.. forgot about degrees and all that crap.. It's an investment in yourself and in your future and nothing else should matter. Rabina yawafa2ak insha'allah.

ahh so it's something that you born with it. sobhana allah, rabena beyegkhlaa2 kol wa7ed be momayezaat mo3ayana. and u are right about the trust thing, the patien has to trust your medical treatment. Yes loan is horrible for me. especially for you rabena ma3ake, you are in a medical school! that's mean more money spending. can you focus between school and work ?

NewCairo... Nope.. seein blood and that kind of stuff don't bother me at all.. I've known since i was at a very young age that I wanted to be a doctor one day.. So i use to force myself by the age of 7 to watch shows on open heart surgeries and things like that just so i can get use to it. And once you are in the field and a person is depending on you and trusts you to help them out then it becomes an obligation and you just have to do what ya have to do :). I think it's a rewarding profession if it's what interests you. I don't suggest to anyone to ever go into medicine for "money". There are a lot easier, and better things to do that will give you more money kaman. Now I know why all doctors told me not to go into medicine lol... it's no joke.

And well to answer your other question about loans.. I have to take out loans to pay for school. It sucks to have to do that. I suggest if you don't have to then don't do it.

pfunkie. i guess the 40k isn't worth it after all these taxes taking off from it.

what is your job exactly in the office? you calm people down? walla bet3algeehom we betekshefee 3aleehom ? ... so your friend father get pissed off if someone called you 3alyaa2 7aaf looool. be sara7a i will feel wierd that each time someone call me "ya doctor". it's like they put a distance between our friendship. i wouldn't feel comfortable.

MasrGadeeda... Yep they take that much money away from taxes.. wa wallahi they take even more... 7asib il zaroof.. if you are married and have children and stuff then they will take out a little bit less but still you lose a lot of money. So 40 thousand you are going to be walking away with very little.

wa thanks for the offer of being an assistant lol bas I think I will stick to working in an office seeing patients that complain about everything and anything just to
give me something to do for the hell of it hehe.
Last Time i went to visit my friend.. her father called me Daktora.. and then he introduced me to all of his friends as daktora 3alya2.. and if any of them called me 3alya2 he got soooo pissed off and said.. LA2 ANA 2OLTILKOM DI DAKTOORA 3ALYA2! hehe i hated that *:

okay well.. ehim I know i am a girl so this may not have as much of an impact on you. But.. i myself will be 27 next month and I have a year left of medical school.. and then if i do the residency I want.. I am looking at another 7-8 years. I am not doing this to show off. or to use the title of DOCTOR to throw around or any of that crap.. In fact i feel very weird when people call me doctor.. especially my friends or their parents. It's very odd to hear that.. i much rather them call me 3alya2 in fact i beg them too. but that's besides the point. I have to support myself.. i am not only becoming a doctor because its something i have always wanted but now it is necessary to complete it just for survival.

If you become a truck driver and make 40 grand a year.. do you think you can get married and get a house with that money? hell no.. thats nothing.. half of that if not more will go to taxes... you will be lucky if you walk away with 20 thousand at the end of the year.. and you know that will be gone on daily living expenses. Now.. if you invest these few years into getting your degree which can lead to you getting a job that may pay you 100,000 masalan.. then wouldn't that have been worth the wait and the struggle? Ina allah ma3a il sabireen. In the end I think you will benefit a lot more if you take the time and get your degree than if you were to rush and settle for any job just to make a few bucks now.

Besides.. do you really want to be a truck driver or something like that? Work is araf.. its not fun.. so you should really do something that at least interests you.. because you dont want to spend your life in a career you hate. :)

allah yenawar 3alekee ya pfunkie, kalameek ma32ool. bass say i am now 24, i will be 27 when i graduated. add another 1-2 years for work exprience = 29. so education will take all the money and age. ya3nee hatgawez emta we afta7 beet emtaa ..30-32 ?. if i told my parents i want to work as a truck driver 40K a year, save money and open my own business. we ba3deen education comes later. for sure they will kill me. my GPA is 3.5 going for junior. i will continue my education anyway. i am just discussing the subject.

Newcairo.. perhaps in egypt if you get a degree min barra zay min amreeka..then people there may perceive it as showing off..However, don't ever think that way.. it can only hold you back from progressing. In this day and age you will usually need a degree to secure a better life for yourself. Jobs are getting more and more harder to find and much more competative so credentials do matter on more levels than just one. Besides.. its an accomplishment and a testimony to yourself that you can do anything you put your mind to. As the saying goes.. knoweledge is power.. and maybe you don't need a degree or years and years of schooling to achieve that but realistically in most cases that is what is needed in this world to survive. So give yourself every opportunity to survive, you owe that much to yourself dont ya? :)

my goal is to never show off with my american degree, neither doing it because society want me to. i will do it because i love what i do, help others to learn, and leave something useful after death. i don't like the idea of i need to have a degree so people can respect me. and i agree about what you said, it must be something more than just a certificate.
