Hello Washingtinians
Hard name you people have, this is where virginians get lost? any of you understood the route from interstate95N to ..495E, 495W , 395E, 395W , 295N, , and then to 95N again mess? I am always lost there.
lol soloeagle :) i picked up my cell phone in DC today and told someone i'd call them back...oops :) good thing there were no cops around. sabih: that only works if you know streets...but u know what's funny the other day i was looking for connecticut avenue and i called 411 cause they give directions :) and as i was dialing CT avenue was coming up right in front of me...so i'm not ALWAYS getting lost :)
now I am more confused then before thanx alot whashingtanians (*_*) ... now I will get lost easy and when I ask for help from a Cop, he will give me a ticket for being on the cellphone trying to talk to my "navigators".
295N is the best :) i still haven't figured out. being lost in DC is an artform M :) salamz. what's nice is being so familiar with a road(495N) that you drive three exits past your exit :) he he...
isn't amtrak like the most expensive ticket? and its great cause its downtown to dowtown? joe biden takes an amtrak in from delaware to dc everyday he comes.
there is a secret way thru dc called the b-w parkway. you go up 95n to 395n and stay on 395n in thru dc and then switch over to 295n and that ends at pennsylvania ave. take that exit and take a left where everybody is taking a left, that put you on suitland pkway which turns into b-w parkway, stay on that even after the 495 signs, then up in the b'more area take the inner harbour tunnel. then that will take you to 95N again. do this because most people don't know it and there is less holiday traffic on it. also isn't too bad during rush hour either. not as bad as 495N. jeez i'm not supposed to tell this route to people, cause then it will add more people to my trips to ny i go on...... yeah, don't take this way, it sucks, you might get shot at by the crazy black guys on sport bikes on suitland pkwy, yeah, thats the ticket. stay away from there.
Say u r going to Baltimore from Springfield and dont want to go thru the city then take 495E/95N. You'll do a big loop around the city and miss the 295/395 traffic. Dude, u do not want to leave I95 and go thru FFX Co Pkwy then I66 which will dump u in downtown. I66 is a nightmare during rush hour.
If you point of origin is South i.e. Woodbridge,Springfield,etc.. i recommend coming up 95N until u hit the mixing bowl and taking the FairfaxCtyPwky 7100 N. This can take you to Fairfax,Dulles, and connect you to 66 East (Washington). But depending on timing..the parkway may be backed up, too.
solo..your question "what is the shortest or fastest route out of the 95N/495/395/295/95N LOOP mess"?
dude..where exactly do you want to go? That loop you are referring to covers 300 miles or so. There are backroads, short-cuts, like the fairfax cty pkwy, dulles toll road, prince william pkwy..all depends on where exactly u need to go..very simple..
Took the Amtrak this time to Ny, dam thing was 4 hours late going and 2 1/2 hrs coming back.....I still did not get the answer to my question "what is the shortest or fastest route out of the 95N/495/395/295/95N LOOP mess"?
We thought we go on to the 270N from 295N but we didn't and ended up on Constitution. Had to head back on 66W to get onto 495N to 270N!
Hehehe..... 495 highway goes nowhere it goes in circles!
Us Canadians have trouble with American highway traffic signs, we are usually given advance warning of routes coming up ahead.
Welcome to the area. Traffic and Commuting can be ridiculous especially coming from NoVA. Stupid HOV, it'll cost u like $150 per ticket...If u work in the city, I suggest u move to the city. That's what I did. Good luck.
i live in the city, no wasting my life for 2 hours a day, maintenence and gas on a car, and stress for me.... please don't move into the city though i like not seeing desi's everywhere i go, unlike when i go out to the burbs..... yeah in dc, there are the blacks killing people everyday and homeless people on my doorstep every night, yeah thats the ticket, oh and my mortgage is huge and and and....... the water is giving me cancer, yeah. so don't move into dc its not smart at all, i'm only here cause of a bad mistake i made thinking it would be better, i'm miserable, one day i hope to move back to the safe suburbs and all, you guys are lucky...... heheheheheheh

Welcome to the area!
Ah, life is wonderful here but don't mess with all that road stuff. The brain isn't meant to store useless details like 325, 425, 66, etc.
Just get someone to drive you or better yet, start driving and call them up to give you directions and navigate you while you're driving.
I've been here 6 years and that's what I do! I have very loyal navigators.
